On January 1, 1863, Abraham Lincoln legally changed the status of over 3 million people from “slave” to “free.” But his emancipation proclamation wasn’t a law — it was an executive order. The framers of the American Constitution made this power available to the executive branch. But what exactly is this tool, how does it work, and what’s the extent of its power? Christina Greer explains.

@Fugitive685The executive orders under Trump during his second presidency are particularly unique in part that (1) he was declaring these orders at rates comparable to a machine gun rate of fire, and (2)just how controversial they were, as they were either somewhat weird or redundant orders (ex. Orders 14154, 14208, and 14186) to orders that conflicted with federal laws and the constitution and overall appeared to be Trump's attempts at scaring the public into believing that their democracy died and that he's the only sane authority in the federal government, ie a dictator (ex. ending birthright citizenship, dismantling the education department, declaring several national emergencies, and a voter ID requirement order that Trump recently "claimed" he was signing).
@jakevelasco4072Apparently it's an anything goes card

@Jajka-x8bWhy does Trump have an executive order fettish?
@mrbarit529"Execute order 66"
@HssyqhahShjeshsdue note that with executive orders that they DO NOT appear in the US Constitution. these were not in there by default. yes the power to execute laws faithfully is there... yet the power to legislate remains WHOLLY in congress's hands, NOT the president. no matter the party. though executive orders HAVE ONLY been done HISTORICALLY, not Granted.
Hope you have a great day & Safe Travels!

@rkeller8141Are these fake executive (dictator) orders supposed to mean something or just to placate a 5 year old?
@rkeller8141what a well thought out and important part of one of the most advanced goverment of the time
im sure it will never be misused
In 2025 trump used an executive order to change the name of gulf of Mexico to the gulf of America for some reason
@yournormalkid252:03 - military expanding and health diminished. Yup, that sums up the role pretty well
@ParkerTerelluProbably going to need a revision on the courts part of this video soon......
@AustinIsTheGreatestWell well well.
@KimagurewhimIts being abused in today's administration
@Rudeil1so FDR would be considered a dictator now with 3,500 orders 😂
@olivegrove-gl3twAs of today, the courts don’t matter.
@LeroyMustangI don't know... so executive orders makes Congress kinda obsolete? That's pretty bad in my opinion.
@gridvidWaited until Obama was out of office before making this video.
Waited until Biden was out of office before recommending it to new viewers.
Not subtle.
Well, that was some 💩ty foresight from the founding fathers.

@TweetsyCkThe Executive Order may in fact be stronger than when it was initially created. The president now has a roundabout way to control the power of the purse and to enforce raciest and inhumane orders that have sparked protests and fires across the nation. March 29th, 2025
@antediluvialThe legislative branch becomes useless when there is high polarization between its parties, it enters a deadlock, meaning realistically only courts can stop a rogue executive order
@chachachi-hh1ksExecutive Order = Dictatorship.
@isabelstokes4042I love America.
