How America Is Transforming an 82,000-Seat NFL Stadium for World Cup 2026

KPOP BEST GIRL GROUP TWICE FIRST TIME CONCERT 🏟 July 6. 2023 MetLife Stadium

— @boston6444

Originally built for NFL football, MetLife Stadium is now undergoing a massive transformation ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final. With more than 82,000 seats, the stadium was never designed for international football standards. Engineers are now replacing the artificial turf with natural grass, widening the field, modifying seating sections, and upgrading critical infrastructure to meet FIFA requirements.

But transforming one of America’s largest NFL stadiums into a world-class football venue is far more complicated than simply changing the field. Beneath the surface, entirely new drainage, irrigation, ventilation, and pitch maintenance systems are being installed while the stadium continues hosting major NFL events and concerts. The project has become one of the most technically challenging stadium upgrades in the United States ahead of World Cup 2026.

The final should be held at the Azteca stadium.

lol, intense atmosphere that NFL is known for. Is he joking? The NFL is one of the most drawn out, boring, and inconsistent game ever. Soccer is one the most intense sport of them all and far intense than the NFL. Basketball is more intense than the NFL but still not as intense as football because up to the last second most times in football the game has to be played out.

How did they do it? $ 😊

Very interesting. Thanks for going deep into detail putting it together!

It's crazy how much work goes into turning an NFL stadium into a FIFA one. Removing over 1,700 seats just to fit the pitch is no small thing. Do you think it was worth it for the final or should they have just picked a stadium built for soccer from the start?

@real_acestate1
@

Transformation? All they did was resod it 😂

@zeekot4064
@

🫩😭 this is gunna be embarrassing. We aren't a soccer place and that's ok we just aren't into soccer why are we pretending?! 🤣

@MaggiePies
@

In spite of all that, I'm sure the field is still going to be too narow and too lousy with seams affecting the play.

@shpala

@FigoPoulos
@

They've been doing this in every other part of the world for about a decade

@obiwanjabroniX
@

Imagine if the NFL listened to their players 😂

Imagine listening to FIFA and not your own players

@obiwanjabroniX

Not very forward thinking when they decided to build MetLife Stadium!… They should have built it as such that both football and soccer can be played in that stadium and they should’ve built a retractable roof over it!

@aheat3036

how you can play professional sport on plastic grass is beyond any common sense.

@BMTurceanu
@

Why do you show stadiums that have nothing to do with this video and you can’t even use images properly some are mirror images. 🤦🏻

@stephenf8840
@

What a waste. All the money that’s going into hosting this event is crazy (just like the Olympics). And this isn’t something that’s needed for use of the stadium going forward it’s for one month only. Crazy.

I’m sure the taxpayers will be paying for it all.

@stephenf8840
@

Stopped watching less than 1/2 through. So frustrating that you keep showing other stadiums that have nothing to do with metlife.
It just a collage of stadiums from around the world. Know where do you show what they did to Metlife Stadium.

@DeerBlood
@

You keep saying in the NFL the seats are tightly close to the field and say that they had to move the seats away for FIFA requirements. That's misleading. In the Premier League the seats are much closer to the field than any NFL stadium. The reason the seats were pulled out was not because soccer wants it, it's because of the shape of the stadium.

@uluturkh
@

FIFA operates like Formula 1. The host cities pay for them to show and they also get to keep the vast majority of the revenue generated. Why? Because they're allowed to get away with it. Eventually cities will tell them to f-off. Until then, they'll keep fleecing everyone.

@jeffreybroussely9795

FIFA is under investigation for organized crime and ticket scamming !! The "crowds" will never materialize and they know it !! It's a scam that's been busted !!! This is all AI Fake video !!!!!!!!!!! BUSTED !!

This is AI crap with the same AI narrator. I have heard hundreds of times and I'm tired of them.

Your using pictures from another stadium in England, a club called MK Dons in Milton Keynes

This would be a fire grow op

@Realmikeipp
@

What a waste of time and money. Seems like they dont give a damn about NFL players safety. That was mighty nice of FIFA.

@mogreen409
@

What a frigging waste of money. Who's paying for all of this, not only for Metlife stadium, what about all the other stadiums in the US and Canada?

@billdapp2491

Ya Cristo viene por su iglesia, la tribulacion esta apunto de empezar en el mundo, para mi este es el ultimo mundial

Everyone is asking who's paying for it. Let's not forget America campaigned to host the World Cup.

@もとのゆき-d7n

The most important of this story is not covered. How much is the total bill for all this? Who is paying for this? Is FIFA paying for any of it? Is all the revenue going to directly FIFA? FIFA = the fleecing of America.

@GNFLYER
@

Who the hell is paying for all that?

@mikiegood

America is another level, incrideble!

#1 - Why are putting this in the past tense when it is still about 53 days before the WC finals -- and they haven't put in the natural turf yet?? And
#2 - So this is what will sort of happen at SoFi in Los Angeles both for 2026 use and become the Swimming venue for LA28 Olympic Games wherein they will put the 50m Olympic pool crosswise against one end of SoFi. They will need to carve out and extra 5m so that the Olympic pool could have 5.0m and 3.0m clearances on both ends of the pool.

Turning an NFL stadium into a World Cup venue feels like America inviting soccer over and suddenly realizing it needs a much bigger living room. Watching engineers redesign an 82,000-seat stadium for the world’s biggest tournament almost feels like preparing a giant stage for humanity’s loudest family reunion.
