How a Fish Factory Worker Became a Tour de France Champion
Video Overview & Insights
Jonas Vingegaard worked in a fish factory in northern Denmark until he was 21. Four years later, he won the Tour de France. Four years later still, he is fighting to complete the Grand Tour Grand Slam by winning the Giro d'Italia.
Now only one of only 8 ever , to win all 3 GC
He has now won it twice and has finished second three times. He came back from a 2024 crash that should have ended his career to finish second at the Tour just twelve weeks later. And this week, for the first time, he starts the Giro d'Italia, chasing the career Grand Slam, a feat only seven riders in cycling history have ever achieved.
This is the story of how a quiet Dane from a fishing village became one of the most consistent Grand Tour riders of his generation. From a quiet upbringing in Thy, to a Strava KOM on the Coll de Rates that got the WorldTour to notice him, to the Col du Granon in 2022 — the day Jonas Vingegaard arrived.
han er vores mand- den bedste cykelrytter nu til dags - uden at være dopet! de andre vindere har alle været dopet også mange danske ryttere, men det er fortid- idag er sporten helt ren - ellers er de ude !! Dannebrog til tops !!

"Northern Denmark".....apparently we don't have city names in Denmark? 4 second Goolge search: City name: "Hanstholm". There, did your job for you. Don't mention it. If you're going to show a map with a pin indicating where he worked, maybe find out the name of the city? Lazy....

Very well written bio
@njvalueinvestorHumble man
@jessfuentes9812One should not forget: For much of the 2017 season, he didn't compete in many races because he was sidelined with a broken femur following a crash. That alone took out almost two years of his career
@traver1965EPIC is the new Panatani I wish you the best Jonas!
@marcellodesantis414My problem is he not racing anything other than hand pick racing, then he will sit back behind a team that is killing themselves for him so he can jump to the front in the last few feet this is not a leader this is a pretender
@MichaelRiffe-t2hSave the vocal fry. Speak normally ffs.
@StarryNightGazing8hrs a day of gutting fish is gonna be a useful motivator to push that bit further, for those of us who didn't have ghettos to get out of.
@rickybuhl3176Yes, he is juiced. They all are. Who cares
@briansrensen8204So is his job at the fish factory currently available?
@dannyzuehlsdorf3697Gracias al traductor ahora lo conozco por vingo😂
@danieleduardo8415No doubt Jonas will win the Giro! 🎉🎉
@onasisfuentes9867The 2024 crash almost killed him. And while he came back, it set him back so much, that after winning Catalunya 2026 he admitted, that only now was he getting back to, where he was b4 the crash in 2024. Thats 2 full years 0f missed development. Only think of the Tours, we couldve had in the last 2 years, if he couldve continued his development uninterrupted by that crash.
@dfuher968Very well done video! 👏👏👏
@SignorLuigiThis guy seems like he could be a good cyclist if he keeps practicing
@brothatwasepicWish he never left the factory
@rafalpruszynski6129This is not entirely correct. He has completed college and didn’t just “take a job” at the fish factory. His cycling team at the time thought it would be good for such a young rider to have more structure to his daily life, so a deal was made that he would work a few hours at the factory in the morning before training. It’s no coincidence that another world tour rider also started out this exact way. It’s part of a “package” for some young riders.
@sardendibsTadej is next level good, but I desperately want Jonas to win the double giro/tdf
@crawfordcockersOverrated
@eweggelaarWhy do you narrate all you videos to make them sound like a bad ASMR true crime murder podcast? "He was working in a fish factory....when he discovered the knife in his hand wasn't gutting fish, but his coworkers".
@ItsJakeTheBrakeJonas could have been great. Instead he chose his family while clock is ticking fast in pro cycling. Now he races when he's almost guaranteed to win. Like Giro right now. super fucking sad
@mdrlzBro the topic is interesting, but your voice makes the video sooo boring!
@cristianrecabarren5891Remember it clearly 1st of july 2022 in copenhagen watching the race the entire stand screaming Vingegaards name and then him flying by in a howl of cheers probably one of my best cycling memories thus far
@HejTheIKEASpiderHe hasn't finished lower than second in a grand tour since his first
@kaspershauptWin or Lose, Vingegaard is the greatest Fisherman🔥🔥🔥🔥
@erenyeager9163We all love the Anchovy Jonas.
@Blittsplitt5Big tadej fan, but really hope Jonas can give Tadej a run for his money this year at the tour!
@DannysMyNannythis is prob the last year fishboy will be able to have a chance to beat mr ed in the tour and previous experience says he will not
at least walt saved cycling for another year, but vingegaaard will prob not get it done this year as much as the world prays to josh hopscotch kristy that he does
all these guys should be secretly be planning to retire before this generation of pro cycling implodes in scandal and shock shock shock that they were all on dope
grab the cash and gtfo
Viva Jonas!
@thegreatexaggerator9077Magic fish oil 😂
@davidanness6180I really want him to win this year's giro
@justsomerandomostrich1906Jonas Vingagaard is a preposterous and laughable fraud.
How do you know? Whenever there is an unnatural transformation, a story is provided. The story is designed to answer one question: “hey…how did he get so good? He never could come close to that before”.
To wit:
Indurain: he lost weight over time which eventually made him the best mtn climber on earth
Lance: cancer caused him to lose muscle mass, enabling him to climb high mtns
Froome: Snail Fever was the only thing holding him back
Crying Vini: “we discovered he has the world’s biggest engine”
Jonas never won a road race, nor GC, over any terrain, including mtns and semi-mtns, until after age 23 when he got on Jumbo Juice and became the best in the world.
Jonas never could crack the top ten of Denmark’s TT Championships. This is a tt among his peers. Where was his engine then? Then, Stage 16 of the ‘23 Tour de France, Jonas produces what many say is the best tt performance in history, beating everybody uphill, downhill, and on the flats.
Talking about fish tales…this one is really stinky.
I hope he does win!
@djouji7620Jonas being a quiet, humble, appreciative dude is so charming in its own way. Pogi is way more bombastic and extroverted, and i appreciate Jonas balancing out that energy by being a dad first.
@IreallylikeeggsI've always liked Jonas... but the whole kissing of the ring thing that he does EVERY TIME he wins a stage is kind of gay and annoying now. Get a new schtick, bro.
@Big_Island_BoiPeople is playing up the fish factory part way to much.
Jonas was a normal youth from Scandinavia with a completely normal background that had a completely normal part time job.
His background is very typical for one of the many successful athletes we have had and have in the Nordics countries.
Fish is a power food, no doubt.
@STW136Great video, I didn’t know much about Jonas so thank you for this.
@ShelleysnailGreat episode 💕
@MaryJane.kin26I love Jonas ! You can tell he’s a great (and humble!) guy.
Props for his trainers that tapped into his inner competitive spirit
