How 150,000 People Are Fed For Onam In Kerala, India | Big Batches | Insider Food
Video Overview & Insights
Onam is a 10-day harvest festival celebrated in Kerala, India. It marks the first month of the Malayalam calendar and commemorates the return of the mythical King Mahabali from the underworld to his home in Kerala.Mahabali's return and the harvest are celebrated with floral artwork, traditional dances, boat races, and a traditional feast known as the Onam sadya.
In Kerala no household cooks during Onam. Caterers do brisk business. Many Christian and Muslim Families also buy Food from Caterers as they do not know to cook vegeterian delicacies. Whether Vinayak Caterers men cook in bare body with dhoti or cook in barebody with only komanam,, Or decide based on bad comments in this video, his business has only one way. It Grows and Grows. Nothing will stop him.
The feast has 15 to 20 distinct dishes, but in some cases, it can have as many as 40. All of the dishes are served on banana leaves and eaten by hand. Eaters use rice as the vehicle for forming the perfect bite. While the traditions of Onam are rooted in Hinduism, Keralites across the state, regardless of religion and caste, enjoy the festivities and a traditional meal.
We visited Vinayaka Caterers in Kerala, India, to see how it prepares sadyas for 150,000 people.

How reach culture is of Kerala and other states of Hindustan. Invadors destroyed our culture. Also in present era our own people started eating beef which is really stupidity in the name of harmony with other culture. Do our ancestors were illeterate of not not doing that ? We are very educated to do that. Just stop eating beef it is our request. We will loose our own identity.

@gr8vijayThank you for this ! I travelled in India and ate banana leaf thali many times in south India although never anything quite as fancy and tasty looking as this amazing meal !
My first time in india around 1984 in the smaller towns in the south it was still possible to get a very tasty thali for 1 rupee
