If there was ever a nation to deserve the tile of "OP" it would be britain. If at some point it's revealed that God or the player of this realistic Paradox game played as Britain, (later the US once they got bored), i would believe it.

much of this is wrong, particularly on Ireland (Ireland was independent in 1921 it was a dominion until after WW2) but on India its completely wrong. The British literally saved the continent from a bloody religious war between Muslims and Hindus. Gandhi's religiousification of politics restoked divisions the British had tried for centuries to suppress. Really shows the poor research they put into these videos.

Seems to miss all those Irish soldiers, sailors and administrators building the empire...

Without the British empire the modern world would never have existed.

Many countries with democracies would simply still be warring kingdoms fighting the next door kingdom.

The USA certainly wouldn’t have existed, not as it stands today.

The industrial revolution wouldn’t have happened, the British didn’t invent Iron but they found a way to use it to build an entire empire and spread its use around the globe.

Like the romans who actually introduced some advanced ideas and technology to Europe and indeed parts of the uk what you have today is built on what was built centuries ago.

Like it or not without the empire and its developed industrial base most nations wouldn’t exist today, they were either forced into the empire and learned to adapt to it or grouped together to oppose the empire and thus give up warring with each other and form a alliance against the empire.

Fun fact about the British empire: in the days of superdreadnaught battleships (~1911 to ~1949), Royal Navy battleships didn't balloon in size like those of other nations, even though they maintained comparable firepower and capability. This was so they could be serviced at dockyards around the world, in various colonies, instead of needing the largest and most advanced dockyards, all in Britain. A lot of compromises had to be made, in order to keep the ships' size down.

I love how wide reaching and evenly spread this is, really reads different when you see just how quickly we went from, Revolution to World War in the grand scheme of things is pretty wild.

This is a great video. The British Empire was shorter than most but was off the charts in terms of widespread cultural impact. It shaped the modern world but the cost was (and continues to be) staggering. As long as everyone keeps trying to fix what is wrong we should be mostly OK in the long run, maybe I hope perhaps? I tell myself that the long arc of history is one of slow steady cultural progressivism but in the span of any one person's lifetime things can get really crazy. There is a myth, oft perpetuated, about the collapse of the British Empire. And I am sad to see it repeated here. The colonies and territories of the empire were divided up in such a way as to destabilise entire regions of the globe, not through ignorance, or indifference, but with malicious intent. The destabilisation was the point, not the bye product.

Ideally, from the British government's point of view, the destabilised regions would cry out for the stabilising hand of the empire to return. At the very least, it would prevent resource and population rich areas from leveraging that advantage into enough strength to challenge the now much weakened kingdom on the world stage.
