The 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico is on track to be the most expensive one ever for match-going fans. The cheapest general sale tickets for the final are four times as expensive as they were for the final in Qatar in 2022, and represent only a small proportion of total seats. We look at the reasons for this surge in prices. Also in this edition: solar power overtakes coal in the US, in spite of Donald Trump's policies.
Cheapest I could find is $768 in Kansas City, Missouri. Still not affordable.

As someone who went to South Africa in 2010 and Brazil in 2014, the difference in corporate greed is night and day. Back then, FIFA actually delegated ticket distribution to local lotteries to make sure local residents could afford to experience a once-in-a-lifetime event in their home country. Bringing the unchecked Ticketmaster/Live Nation "dynamic pricing" model to football is a tragedy. They've effectively killed the soul of the People's Game.

@abcntI grew up an American football fan till I have to pay to see a game on TV. Have to pay to see Yankees play. No longer. Australian Football, Rugby (Go All Blacks). Free to watch. Look for a new sport. The old ones are just money pits.
