It's kinda frustrating the dogs even have access at all to the pool area when no humans are there. Really bad and honestly pretty stupid of the owners. I've heard far too many stories like this where things go the other way. Hope they lock/block that area off in the future for when they aren't home with the dogs.

That last step was too deep for the little buddy! You could put another step on top of the stairs to help him get out onto the patio!

What a smart, brave, and kind dog!
His behavior—staying by his tiny friend’s side for a while after the friend got out of the pool, as if he were looking out for the friend—brought tears to my eyes.😂

I guess they could put some kind of ramp hanging in the side of the pool and train the little one how to use it. They could probably train the big dog so it would know how to get in the pool and push the little one up so it can get out but that seems a bit harder. You’d image the dog might be a bit more careful around the pool if it’s not completely afraid now.

If you have pets always build one of those boards that allows one end to sink and the other end out of the pool that they can crawl up and out of the pool.

Sounds wholesome but shouldn't they be charged with neglect for leaving dogs outside while they aren't home? That's literally illegal dogs are required to have shelter of some sort if they are going to be left outside and that dog could've drowned simply cuz they left them outside

It's great the pup survived. Do they not have pool gates in South Africa? They have had two dogs one is small and elderly the other HATES water, but they have this big pool not blocked off in any way? At least this prompted them to get a cover before a child fell in.

A warning to pool owners:

My neighbours have an in-ground pool, and have always had dogs. None of their dogs have fallen into the pool because the pool is segregated from the rest of the yard by a short fence.

In contrast, I have a cousin who has an in-ground pool without a fence. Very recently, her little elderly dog, much like the one in this video, fell in. She wasn't outside unsupervised for very long, but it was long enough. The poor girl didn't make it.

If you have pets, fence off your pool; and even if you don't install a ramp in case a stray or wild animal gets in anyway.
