If it wasn't for the colonel's genius management skills, especially from 1958 -1960, Elvis Presley would never have had the fame that he had. The reason Elvis didn't perform overseas had nothing to do with him being an illegal immigrant, as he could have arranged everything from the US, without leaving the country. The reason he didn't tour overseas is because of the amount of narcotics that Elvis was taking, along with other drugs. Yes, all were prescriptions, however the issue was the amount that he was taking. Elvis would not go anywhere without his gun collection, which obviously would have been another concern. The reason that he didn't accept the role of "A star is born" is at that time he was having difficulty remembering anything, even words to songs that he had been singing for years. How would he have remembered the hundreds of lines in a movie as a main character? One of the reasons the colonel had scheduled so many shows for Elvis to perform, was because Elvis asked him to do so. He spent money as fast as it came in and had a huge payroll to honour. After their fight in 1974, Elvis ignored the colonel right up until the day he died, despite the colonel offering the olive branch on many occasions. The main reason for their fighting was because at the time, nobody including Elvis or the colonel knew about Elvis's serious health conditions.
