Video Overview & Insights
im back and unhappy but we're one step closer to my shadowhunter finale vid hahah
* cleanse your mind with my recent japan vlog lol - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HxWq32DEmE *
but really: how does the magic work? no one knows. how do blood oaths work and do they fade? no one knows. how are the kingdoms laid out? no one knows. when did the war where alaha was banished happen? have they been living on that island thing for multiple generations? no one knows. also its a century-long peace treaty and kai is the first relative of wren to come to the market so why are we surprised wren is old af???
can you tell me a single thing about the MMC's personality? His only personality is telling Brynn what the next step is and that's it - he doesnt really make jokes, we are never shown any leadership skills other than his soldiers saying 'yes ur highness' when he tells them things. The author just gave us 'dark hair and an enemy soldier' and expected us to do the rest. But the author can always turn around and say its intentional (like she can do with every piece of bad writing in this book)
And where is his metal slinging?
Anything lacking in this plot can just be written off as something intentional for the next book but what that means is the reader just has...a poorly written book.
thanks forever and always to @mikesmic and @JennyNicholson for the inspiration!
food for thought: how does the magic work? no one knows. how do blood oaths work and do they fade? no one knows. how are the kingdoms laid out? no one knows. when did the war where alaha was banished happen? have they been living on that island thing for multiple generations? no one knows.
Acker is constantly not telling her things. Send her back to her kidnappers at this point, they only lie about one thing. 😭

Not me immediately thinking brynn jovie 😭😭😭 I'm dead 💀
MORTAL INSTRUMENTS
PART ONE (city of bones) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ru8h0nYEcY
Am I the only that notices a lot of parallels with the Israel Palestine propaganda? There is a population than is forced to live in an area that's not even considered land at this point, with no access to food because they were "bloodthirsty villains " and now they still have a lot of "bad evil army" and are still a threat (even though they are being starved) with German sounding evil names. They have even taken a hostage from the other good side, for no reason, other than "they are evil". Not to mention the fact that they throw people to jail if they touch or kiss each other, which again sounds like anti Muslim propaganda.

PART ONE (house of earth and blood) - https://youtu.be/_qdHpaDD1hU
WHY are they always named Kai or Cai or Xander??? I hate that name because of fantasy authors 😡

Your brother is shaped like a strawberry??

Girl! I’ve been saying these editors are trash lately! 😂
These types of inconsistencies piss me offffffff about Kindle and indie books.
Thanks for reading this so I didn’t have to. Lol

It's so weird listening to this bc I can see the bones of a pretty interesting fantasy story. I like the idea of the artificial island and magic require touching the earth and like a lost princess it all sounds really fun. If this was a first draft I'd be like "rough but cool ideas" but.... just publishing it like this??? What a waste of all that potential.

Are you sure the book wasn't translated or made by ai?
@notfunnybutfunny7333Recently discovered this channel, enjoying your sacrifice here, Ren included.
@kodoru1wait is this book just The Bridge Kingdom but bad? Thank you Cari, I will never read this lol. I will however go and listen to part two
@NicoleClare91Is this AtLA fanfic with the serial numbers filed off? Because it feels like it might be. That would explain the lack of any explanations about the world, the random weird creatures, the insane geography like islands made of trees.
@yyzhedI know a large part of it is the way Cari's phrasing things and the actual conversations are probably a lot less fun, but I'm strangely endeared by the beginning and Brynn and Acker not talking like normal people? Especially the first market scene, that whole thing just sounds like a farce and it's great. You definitely stole something and so I will cut off your hand! But I won't cut off your hand instead, touch rocks! Touching rocks is horrifically painful!
Also, if Brynn astral projected to see her mom in the bath, was she also naked in front of her mom??
I literally love these so much that!!! I need you to do TOG ( even though you read books to save us) just because I love that series and would LOVE TO HEAR YOUR OPINIONS
@lydiasnyder79Why the name is Metal Slinger?
@karlamoraes5611I just read this book and I’m so pissed off. So betrayed. I went hunting for bad reviews because I only saw rave reviews prior to reading! So glad I found this rant because OMG!!!!🤬
@amandafalsonwriteri just cant get the name out of my head… ala’ha???? ok hawai’i but white people
@EVparkingonlyi just need you to know that i am extremely homesick in another country right now, but watching this video in preparation for your sequel video has helped curb my homesickness ❤
@ramiragwaheThis is such a bad book and I love it ❤ I enjoy this book so much
@belendiaz7687What was the other book series???
@averiefaithEveryone just has ADHD
@averiefaithCame back here to refresh my memory because she just posted the sequel!🥳
@squidwardtentacles71441:03:48 When I was first hearing you talk about this scene I thought it was like, weirdly poignant given the quality of the writing that happens before & after? Like, there's something compelling about having a moment alone, or away from a manipulative figure, & realizing that they are & have been moulding you into someone you would not naturally be, & I think the sketch book is a really elegant, subtle way of showing the kind of person she maybe would have been if allowed to follow her own heart
Which makes this scene so confusing considering the rest of the story is just having her conform to whims of a different guy? & then the twist?? I'm almost convinced someone else contributed the idea for this scene in response to an earlier, pre-twist version of this story, & for one reason or another it never got removed or altered to fit the new direction
1:04:36 I know this is a tiny flaw relative to everything else, but why is she describing the feeling and letting him go, "Yup, that's how magical influence feels," instead of demanding a description and seeing if it corresponds to her experience?
@ElorauroraAll I hear is Bon Jovi😭
@ClaryVoiyantAgatha Christie did the duplicitous 1st person narrator and the twist ending revealing a hidden agenda back in 1926(!) when she wrote The Murder of Roger Ackroyd! The only thing compelling about this book is something that's been done for at least 100 years. This whole summary was bonkers and so entertaining - I'm so happy you read this book so I don't have to 😂❤
@wallaceandvomit7807I am watching this again to be ready for your video about the sequel. I remember only bits and pieces. And that it was sooo not my cup of tea. So thanks for suffering so we don't have to. ❤
@Lenneth--HKind of reminds me of like if this blood bond is kind of similar from what I'm hearing cuz I watched this video like a year ago and completely forgot and then watched the other one about you know the same crazy series and the whole blood Bond thing reminds me of like a Harry Potter unbreakable vow when Snape's trying to like do that thing where he's like telling him draco's mom that he's going to protect him
@benbrelje1918It sounds like a high school writing assignment to write an unreliable narrator. And it got a C or D. Then somehow got published lol
@tianabitton83872:56:20 Cari I’m with you here girly but AT WHAT COST
@ohnosowait i'm rewatching this in prep for your new video and I'm now wondering what ever happened to the boats that he brought in the beginning - couldn't they have taken one of those instead of a row boat??
@atomic_flower"we need better editors" We need better writers.
@caffeinatedquillThis is me from the future. I can't take this book serious cause the name of the place she lives sounds like a discount soda flavor. I can't.
@MyOfficialBurnerAccountThis is absolutely hilarious I almost want to read it just to laugh at the absurdity of it 😭
@Morphwastakenlol ofc they have ONE black person
@badwitchieThe more we learned about kenta, the more the mangrove island ruled by the mind controller seemed the better option, despite the poor quality food given to them (which, why are they punishing the innocent people who don't realize they're being ruled by a mind controller by giving them bad food?).
Edit: i wrote this before we got to the twist. Seems like Brynn thought the same.
Also, it would have been smarter to have Kai use his powers to lock away the truth in her mind until a certain sign, then it would explain why the narrative was as it was in first person.

I know this is old but I just wanted to say that I read this all the way through even though I wanted to DNF it right away. I thought that it was really popular for a reason. And it was absolutely horrible. I regret wasting two weeks of my life on it because I could not pour myself to get through it. It usually takes me a day or two to read a book I spent for hour on this book it was so bad. Really badly written. I don’t know how it was so popular. But I found this one because your video for the second book was out and I forgot all about this book so I went back to find out what you said about this book so that I could keep up with the other video.😂 I forgot how much I hated this book.
@JoJo-zl7qhWhen you said the "i'm the bad guy" i heard the billy ellish song.....
@BongBarbietheBarbiewiththeBongI'm crying that Brynn and Kai literally got put in horny jail. 😭🤣
@colleenwalsh4081how does she know what hogtie means? are they keeping ungulates up in the trees?
@asmergoliNot me being here after immediately dnf this book😂
@hannah_lowirewatching to prepare me for the sequel plot video

@aj_814yeah i def needed to rewatch this lmao so many stupid plots i had forgotten about... see you soon in the second video cari jshdh
@sendradinsI came here to watch this video again, to watch the second part. 😂 maybe people think its a good idea to read it because this video doesn't fail to make laugh so hard, jesus take the sail?😂
