Which broccoli are you planting in the video please?
Am confused.. am about to sow some purple sprouting broccoli here down south on the coast.. cool right up until May June so should be good for some growing around the side in shade 😊

Hi Ben. I grew some calabrese a few years ago: I can't remember the variety now, but I bought it because it said it sprouts side shoots after cutting the head. It did exactly that and so I got two crops for the price of one. A nice head and a load of side shoots, like sprouting broccoli. Is this normal with calabrese or is it just particular varieties. Great video as always, my friend.

Thank you for all of the information ! I enjoy watching your videos. I'm in cool, seaside weather and I can get away with having a pretty good winter garden. The tips about Allysium and Calendula are wonderful because they are plentiful here. Another tip you may want to try out against aphids is parsley. I used to have to eat my artichokes with a bowl of water next to the plate to rinse off the (cooked) aphids from the petals but one year I had a surprise parsley plant next to those artichoke plants and there were no aphids that year...
Anyway, thanks again and I will look for your planting guide. Then it's off to plant my lettuces, broccoli and cauliflower starts!

I had a ceremonial cutting up and binning of all my nets when I came home for a second time to find Birds, almost dead with exhaustion getting caught up in them; the way you have secured the netting won't do!, there is still too much slack in them; If you HAVE to use nets make up some proper cages where the mesh is kept very taut by the use of a staple gun.

Sounds like the perfect thing to grow here in shetland. Only problem would be keeping yhem covered. The wind would make short work of any netting..

sprouting broc for me

My father in law gave me some sprouting broccoli seedlings but said it was for next year. Do they actually need to grow over the course of a year before harvesting?

Would be nice if you considered other areas like here in New Brunswick Canada. We are area 5B. last frost date is 11 May this year.

Hi Ben, What variety of PSB is shown in your video? My PSB is always huge plants with smaller slender spears. But many of them, too many for us to eat at once 😂. I would like to try smaller plants like yours. Thank you.

Came looking for broccoli advice in readiness to pick our very first sprouting broccoli 😁. Chose this variety because it could be sown in summer and planted out once risk of cabbage white caterpillars had passed, it was so lovely to see the first florets starting to form a short while ago and today’s the day, broccoli from the garden for dinner! So glad, we only have a tiny garden and had given up on all brassicas due to the butterflies so this will be a real treat.

Love broccoli in this house. But why does my first crop broccoli 🥦 go to sprouting/bolt. Some have said it because it needs shelter and I've tried that but really helping the later heads. Any tips. 🙏

I can't grow Calabrese. It bolts every year. I've grown it in full sun, partial shade, a very shady area. I've watered it daily, every other day, and only twice a week. Used compost, Growmore Pellets, well rotted manure. And yet it bolts every year. I've just about given up on it :(

My seedlings came up really leggy with 2-3" stems... what did I do wrong?

Hi Ben, I have purple sprouting brocs from last year that we're still eating off till recently. It's clearly on its last legs 'tho, and rather huge with flowers and loads of seedheads, the insects are whirring excitedly, Just wondering when I can harvest the seedheads, do they have to be brown before I can cut them down? In the meantime, my current year's sprouts are eagerly waiting to get into that 1m sq raised bed ... Thanks for this, and for all your vids where I learn lots and lots.

Hi Ben, this is my first time growing any veg and your videos are ace! I followed the video for broccoli and planted out 1 month ago (in Cornwall, UK). They’ve grown rapidly outside, however they’ve gone to flower and doing a little Google it appears they’ve ‘bolted’. Does this mean I need to get rid of the crop or is there anything I can do to save them? Thank you

Love your videos! I’m at the start of my growing journey so lots to learn! You mention sowing about a once a month for a flow of crops. I’m assuming this is only if you have extra space or can I do this and plant the next lot of plants in where the first ones have been harvested? With extra nutrients and fresh compost? I’ve got so many seeds and seedlings already I want to maximise my crop. Many thanks 🙏🏻
