Great white shark spotted next to paddleboarders off Cape Cod beach

Why exactly is this news worthy? I thought everyone knew, sharks live in the ocean, am I missing something??

There are videos online demonstrating this: If you hang off the board, get in the water so they can see you, they will know you aren't a seal and generally they will leave you alone. If you stay up on the board, trying to somehow hide your presence, they will see - looking from below - an outline of something tapered at both ends, sometimes with little fins sticking out, kind of like like a resting seal. A nice big one. They will circle the board and try to figure out just what the heck that thing is. Which would you prefer?

Bottom line? Predators are unpredictable.

A bird is on the fence in my yard. A fly is flying around the sidewalk. I can see a squirrel in the tree, across the street. Amazing!!! The lasiest new reporters since the being of news exist in this generation.

They stayed calm and didnt panic, yet paddled so fast one broke her paddle? And had no time for thought? Uhhhh, that sounds like panic to me.

The story doesn't insinuate that the girls or the shark were doing anything wrong. It's just a story about a shark siting, so just enjoy it.

When you are in their world, common sense will show you the way….or not..

Do these people watch the news or TV? There are GW sharks all over the Cape Cod area. I wouldn't go in that water on a bet.

Madeline paddled so fast she broke her oar. How is that staying calm? Worst thing to do is trigger the shark by splashing and fleeing I thought. I would have freaked out also though.

Its their habitat. We swim with them everyday. See, thats the problem with the world today. Disinformation. Create fears, to create hate, to blame a false ennemy. This is dangerous. Not the shark!!

That shark wants nothing to do with her. Looking for a seal. If the Great White is swimming with dorsal fin out is not in predation mode, just scouting. Great Whites are ambush predators. They submerge and come up forcefully.

Seriously, you're not a smart person kayaking or certainly paddle boarding in the ocean. I feel like I need a bigger boat every time I go out. Your SERIOUSLY asking to be "tasted".

The experts always say that these kind of shark sightings are "rare," yet we hear about these each summer. I'm sure that these girls would conclude that they would not want to be that "rare" case again should they encounter sharks again in the water. Any "rare" case is too often for me. The only body of water in which I will immerse myself is a bathtub and occasionally a swimming pool.
