@Mr1fish2fishI think bicycle riders should not raise up off of the seat to pedal, all that back-and-forth slosh motion of the bicycle is a loss of effective force to the pedals. All power should be applied to the pedals without raising up off of the seat in order to transfer all that rocking motion that comes from standing up on the pedals into energy forward into the pedals.
@Mr1fish2fishI've done one of those Alpine descents, a shorter one from Villars to Ollon. Not nearly as fast and on a basic old bike, but still one of the great sensations of the world. The bike had hub brakes, drum type, and at the bottom they were glowing red hot. I took the perfect road surface for granted, but imagine doing something like this in modern Britain and dodging the potholes.
