Germany's Military is BACK - Here's What Changed

Video Overview & Insights

Germany is rebuilding its military faster than at any point since the Cold War. After decades of underinvestment, the Bundeswehr is undergoing a historic transformation, with hundreds of new Leopard 2A8 tanks, Puma IFVs, Boxer APCs, Patria 6x6 vehicles, Eurofighters, IRIS-T air defence systems and a rapidly expanding defence industry. But how strong is Germany's military today, and what will it look like by 2030?

As promised, here are the videos mentioned in this episode:

In this comprehensive 2026 military review, we analyse the German Army (Heer), Luftwaffe and Deutsche Marine, examine Germany's massive rearmament programme, and assess how German-made equipment has performed on the battlefields of Ukraine using verified Oryx loss data. We also take a deep dive into Germany's booming defence industry, including Rheinmetall, HENSOLDT, KNDS Deutschland, thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, Diehl Defence, Quantum Systems, Helsing, ARX Robotics and more.

We cover:

‱ Germany's place in NATO and Europe's rearmament

Germany has gone from sending 5,000 helmets to becoming Europe's largest single supplier of military aid to Ukraine and one of the world's largest arms exporters. With defence budgets rising, production lines expanding and order books stretching well into the next decade, the Bundeswehr is changing rapidly—and this video explores exactly how far that transformation has gone.

Dear Tuomas,
please do not expect "the full numbers" to be available in any conflict. It is tradition for BUREAUCRATS to be stingy when it comes to spare parts ... and germans have been propagandised against war for decades to make it difficult for the Bundeswehr to fill those numbers of soldiers. The Navy is particularly bad and ships are leaving port while not having a full crew aboard ... and it is traditional to have projects for new ships "not work out" due to being over budget.

13:28 Here the difference between theory and practice shines again: The H145M brings far more firepower than the Tiger, because the Tiger in German service wasn't equiped or used for much more than the H145M, but the H145M is one of the most reliable helicopters out there, while the Tiger is the most reliable job guarantee for repair crews.

One small correction: The MARS 3 isn't GMARS, but EuroPULS, the Europeanised version of the Israeli PULS, instead of a truck-mounted M270 launcher, which is called GMARS.

No wars are not won with artillery shells, the war in Ukraine is a unique situation. Air dominance wins wars, always has always will. That’s a meat grinder with stagnant lines. You don’t want that. Neither side had the ability to defeat a basic air defense. NATO does have that ability. Give Ukraine 200 F-35’s and watch what happens to Russia. The air defense will be shattered within 72 hours, and now you are dropping bombs on defenseless soldiers and artillery. And guess what, bombs are cheap, and more accurate than artillery. You got off the shelf cruises missiles being mass produced right now, they are cheap, and have incredible range. These are easy kills on tanks and slow moving artillery where you don’t have to get close. You do t want to be in a meat grinder it’s not WW1. Blind your enemy real time kill chains.

While I’m glad you are finally addressing your military, it’s about 15 years behind schedule. You spent that time with your head buried up Russias a$$. Warned you about Nord stream in 2011, you didn’t listen. In 2104 after Crimea, you were like let’s do Nord stream 2 and defund our military further, let’s defend Russia on the world stage. Then that stunt you pulled when you Ukraine was attacked sending them nothing! Now you are like oh we are helping Ukraine by selling them, artillery shells. Shame on you, you got in bed with Russia and didn’t start acting normal till someone blew up Nord stream. Let’s also remember the two largest intelligence leaks on the war in Ukraine came from Germany. Now you are demanding everyone let Islamic fundamentalists invade their countries.

Knowing you guys you are probably getting ready to attack Poland again. You have been nothing but deceptive, manipulative, and Russia apologist for decades. Had you don’t what you said you would do after Crimea Ukraine probably doesn’t happen, but you didn’t. Shame on you.

German here. We would have loved to be the equivalent of the smurf village. We don't want war, but it is clear that being prepared for it may be the only way to prevent it.

Just my 2 Cents: in 2026 the BW Gas 183.000 personal, there of are 64.000 combat troops. Rear Echolon, Medical and Logistics are not counted in those 64.000

The Plan ist to Build those 183.000 to 200.000 and the active Reserve to 260.000, sums up to 460.000 active troops.

And thats the plan in 2026, if something escalates those numbers will go up.

I call BS after less than 10s. This isn’t the greatest rearmament since WWII. During the Cold War, the West German Bundeswehr alone was round about double of what united Germany’s armed forces is planned to be in the 2030s. Why does everyone keep repeating such obvious nonsense???
