GDP numbers should “put an end” to speculation Canada is in recession: economist

Video Overview & Insights

In a solid start to the second quarter, Canada’s economy grew 0.5% in April after a weaker than expected start to the year that raised some concerns Canada had entered a recession.

It's mentally exhausting having the news provide misinformation. Companies are laying large amounts of people off, there are less job openings and even with the slightly lower price of gas the price of groceries has increased significantly and will not be coming back down in price. Why not just tell the truth?!

— @eddiedawson8779

Desjardins Economist, LJ Valencia believes, “It really should put an end to the speculation that Canada is in a recession.”

Doesn't matter. Canada has sucked for 11 years.

— @andrewryba7864

While today’s data may help to calm some nerves, uncertainty over the future of the Canada-U.S. trade deal, and its impact on growth, remains.

Canadians are drowning in debt in a resource rich country , what's wrong with this picture? I'm not sure which liar to believe is the general mood right now .

— @chriswong4304

“This sort of persistent uncertainty and tariffs in general are a significant downside risk to economic activity,” Valencia said.

Perfect example of the media being paid to misinform citizens. After this recession we need to address the problem of media misinformation and government paying them to do so.

— @oneeyedwilly65

Jacqueline Hansen has more.

How much did you get paid to report this? 0.4% growth with 3.2% inflation isn't a win. It's us losing buying power for the 11th consecutive year under the Liberal Party.

That's .5 % is a fake number it's being propped up by all the money the government is giving to the corporations

The fallacy here is they include GOVERNMENT WORKERS IN GDP. This is a fallacy because
1/ those worker add no real productivity nor service to the nation, and only add to the tax burden and red tape difficulty.
2/ the governments in Canada have grown the government worker positions by 40% since 2015, while the population and private sector workers only rose 16% in the same time! nuts

We are a nation in decline. It’s a sad reality for those of us who have been around long enough to know we were a much better and stronger nation in years past. Trudeau was key to this decline. Carney has continued this trend. We can’t continue spending money we don’t have. I just retired and won’t be burdened with debt payment that will fall on next generations (plural!). Hope has been taken from our youth. We used to be a land of opportunity.

Get over it, every nation got hit with US tarrifs, so what? is Canada that special that it should be the sole nation not be faced with tarriffs? who the hell do you think you are that you get so offended? Should all nations act childish like Canada and over-react like this?

Are the Canadian media seriously telling Canadians to celebrate with a 0.5% growth after a recession, a 6.5% unemployment and CAD lost 40% of its value against USD? 😂 Meanwhile the US media is telling Americans to hate Trump for a merely 2% growth, a 4% unemployment and USD surge to it’s strongest value? Wow if at this point you still confuse about what side own the media, then you are lost!

Carney's Canada:

- Highest in food inflation.

- Lowest real GDP growth among G7 nations, 2nd lowest among OECD nations the past decade.

- Only country in the G20 in a recession.

- Pays more than $1 Billion per week just to service the interest on national debt, more than what is spent to support healthcare.

- Unaffordable housing.

- Violent crime rates soaring.

- Reckless and disastrous immigration policy.

- A strained healthcare system.

- 25-year high interest rates.

- Stagnant wages that do not keep up with inflation.

- Little progress in tariff negotiations.

- No progress in developing the energy sector and scrapping anti development laws.

- Billions of taxpayer dollars wasted on other countries.

- Spent more than $300 Million on the PrescribeIT program only to cancel it after spending the money.

- Doubled the Trudeau deficit from $31 Billion to $65 Billion.

- Food banks are recording nearly 2.2 million visits per month.

- Mortgage costs have increased due to inflationary government spending.

- Highest household debt in the G7.

- Lowest investment per worker in the G7.

- Half a Trillion dollars of investment has fled from Canada to the United States.

- Twice as much capital has left than what has returned.

- Twice as many Canadians are starting businesses abroad than they do at home.

- Spaceport scandal cost $200 Million.

- $10 Billion a year given away as foreign aid.

- Failed net zero projects have cost $189 Billion.

- Increased federal workforce by 100,000 costing $17 Billion a year.

- CPP / EI IT systems failure has cost $6.6 Billion.

- Phoenix payroll failure cost $4.2 Billion.

- $2 Billion each year for temporary immigrant child care.

- Gun buyback cost $576 Million.

- Asylum seeker healthcare costs $1 Billion each year.

- Refugees receive $5,149 tax free while the average Canadian takes home $4,100-$4,800/mth after taxes on a good salary. Disabled Canadians including seniors and vetarans receive barely $1,000/mth despite paying into the system their entire lives.

- Created a bailout program for condo developers using 3 Billion of taxpayer money to buy empty condos at above market prices.

You dimmies are missing the point. The investment in Canada's debt bonds are mostly owned by the CCP and US investors, no more is Canada's debt owned by Canadians... Now, we have the muslim call to prayer over a Canadian city. If we socialism any harder we will lose from all the socialism free stuff we are winning with. The problem with socialism and communism is they kill millions before they run out of money.
