Theres. Always someone who moans about the price of a game. Considering the time, energy and knowledge that go into games its always a good. Reasonable price.

Then theres the morons who think they can shortcut all effort using AI. then wonder why. They dont have manual skills later on

I’m just a guy who likes learning about everything but even I would start by telling people what the fuck a sprite , I can really learn this shit ! But first I would like to know what the fuck he’s talking about. The technical stuff is straight forward but people who have these names for different aspects of the game like a file or a game engine ect, but like text speak if you have never heard the word then you’re constantly asking either google or a friend’s kids what each word means so why not just start with that so when you start learning on a video like this you can tell what the fuck this guy is talking about, I understand the whole concept and everything else he’s discussing but these abreiviations and words that sound like text speak are new to beginners so start with that then they can learn much quicker or just show more videos on what each aspect of putting a game together and first what’s their given name then why you call it a pixie for example.

I don't even know where to start. It has been a dream of mine since I was a kid to make video games and I only imagined the graphics design side of it. Should I learn coding first and then move into graphics design? I plan on going to school and I am at a point in my life where I am just saying fk it and chasing my dreams whether I fail or not. The world is already a shit show and Im ready to die anyway. If any one who sees this has some advice for me or needs more info in order to answer, please do help. I want to live with no deep regrets from today forward. Then again maybe I find another passion along the way. Thanks :D

Everything up until "you should generally not use custom assets" made sense... other than unity of course but thats forgiven cuz of the video's age. Brother, true gamedevs make their own assets. Yes one could buy assets from others and I do encourage good trade BUT you will not tell me I SHOULDN'T make my own things. I will curse you. Understand? Free will, non-npc!!

And rwan link is good he works a day job and releases fan made videos that he does himself in his spare few hours a day

11:29 could have just given us a sponsor instead.. don't do that... Like some people have the goal to create something from scratch and assets cost a lot of money... That's only a good idea for people who have a bunch of extra money.. but for people who are broke and also want the accomplishment of doing everything from scratch, just do your thing

For those who are intimidated by coding: C# and C++ is really fun to learn. Its all about learning what means what. Namespaces, Classes, privates, publics, voids. It's a "programming language" so just like you would take a class in Spanish, you take a class in a computer language. And honestly, its easier to learn a programming language than it is to learn a spoken language (I speak 4 languages, so I have some experience), because the code is already written in your native language. All you have to do is just learn the structure of how codes are written, and the rest is all reference. There's plenty code databases you can use to fill in code for your own scripts. You can also have ChatGPT or any other high end AI write code and plug it into coding software like Visual Studio and study it to learn the structure and terminology.

I first learned YAML years ago when I started my first multiplayer Minecraft server. I also learned a lot of JavaScript and basic HTML and HTML2 by designing websites for my different startups. You can literally start making your own basic codes after 30 days of just learning the basic structure of a programming language.

Here's an example from my own life: I've been learning Spanish for over a decade and I still have trouble with fluent conversation with a native speaker. In contrast, I've been learning C# for a little over a month and have already written some basic scripts for my Unity project. It's easier than you think! Trust me!

And once you make your first basic script and it fires off with no errors and does what you intended it to do, you'll have that very rewarding "F*** YEAH!" moment like I did. I literally jump out of my chair and yell that when something actually works and I get weird looks from my wife lol

I'm still confused about some things, but not as confused as I was before.
(Warning, this comment might be long)
I don't have any money currently and I am certainly not at the age where I can solely focus on making a game right now because I'm still in school, I'll graduate in 2 years.
I love to game, however, I have only found one actual game that I love to play which is Wolfquest. If you don't know, it's a game where you play as a wolf in Yellowstone national Park and your main goal is to find a mate, raise a pack, and keep you, your mate, and your offspring alive as much as possible.
I so want to play something like that, but where it's a fantasy survival game.
Unfortunately, I haven't found any survival fantasy games that are even remotely close to the style I want it to be. So then, like what my brain always does, is it thinks of ways that I would like it and then it thinks "What if I made a fantasy survival game that is totally unlike any other?" And that is exactly what I did.
The only problem is that, while I am very creative and excellent at conjuring up ideas, I don't have any experience with game making at all. I don't even really know what goes on, which is why I came to this video. I'm still very confused, but not as bad.

Anyway, my game that I want to make I have a very thought out idea that is pretty well made. I decided to call it "My Origin", which is going to be a fantasy survival game where the player can play as any mythical creature that is available to play as.
The following creatures that exist are various species of dragons(all original to me and my own brain, I didn't look up anything to make them), some other mythical creatures like unicorns, alicorns, pegasi, and a few species of nature horses(which are like regular horses but connected to nature and have a few abilities connected to nature).
There are also merfolk, sirens, krakens that players can play as; griffins, Phoenix's, dwellers, etc.
And of course other mythical creatures like werewolves, vampires, fae's, elven people, witches, and sea nymphs which are different from merfolk and sirens. And, last but not least, humans. The player can also customize their certain character and can even save them in the game menu to play as later.

Just for some extra information, each species requires certain things; essentially, while all species require basic necessities like sleep/rest, food, water, and remedies, certain species require different types of climates to live in, as well as different diets. For example, a siren needs to live in the water. They do have a human form and can be on land, but the more time they spend away from water(specifically ocean water), they will grow very weak and can succumb to illnesses and won't be able to recover from injuries as fast. They also have to eat human souls in order to stay alive and to have powerful abilities, so they really can't eat anything else(other than certain kinds of seafood).
Also, certain species have different lifestyles. Some species are more solitary and nomadic, while others are more social and require groups or packs in order to survive.

I have already thought of different biomes as well. There are some land biomes(I think 9) and 11 ocean biomes, and each biome(land and ocean) are accommodated to certain species.

So that's the main concept of my idea, and it definitely is going to be a very high experienced game, so I'm not sure how I will be able to construct something like that.

This is a great Beginner's guide. But where is the chapter on the mandatory 48-hour crunch fueled purely by resentment and instant coffee? Asking for a 'successful' dev friend.

Hey Thomas I know you probably won’t see this comment. But in shooting my shot. I have an amazing idea for a brand project. Not a full fledge game or anything like that but I don’t want to say particulars publicly. As to keep the exclusivity and not give it away. I just need a bit of direction or workflow on how to execute it. Is that anything you can assist with or recommend someone who can assist with the info?
