The set in the future scene is pretty damn impressive for an 80s movie with such a modest budget.

The original Terminator's portrayal of the future war is by far my favorite. The machines are titanic, faceless, utterly inhuman. The "endoskeleton infantry" of the later movies look cool, sure, but they bring the enemy down to human scale, and even a skull-face is still a face. It's an enemy you can imagine fighting. But this scene... it's like facing off against alien gods.

The Terminators future war is an analogy for the war between Ai and humanities importance. A spiritual war between the pre Ai world and post Ai world.
