This song was popular in 2012 on the radio. My father, who was my best friend, passed that winter. I remember a day or two after that driving my car down streets in my hometown that I hadn’t been down in years. They were the same streets my father drove me to school on & home on after picking me up from my high school friends’ houses after weekends of mischief and living like there were no tomorrows.
I remember so vividly hearing this song after he passed and as I drove down those well known, yet unknown, streets, I simply felt a sense of gratitude.
That night my and my father’s spirit were young, free , and cancer had been defeated, not in life, but in the unbreakable memories and moments that could not extinguish life or the soul’s bond that is born through the simplest of moments.
When the bar of life closes, we carry each other home always because love is an unbreakable bond and memories are the life force of each of our hearts.
So to make a long story short, this song hits me deep. Tonight we are healed and cancer can suck it. We will always set the world on fire if we remember and celebrate the flames that forged us.
