Hi mate. I've got a few queries and would be grateful if you could advise. So, in the listening test part 3, if I wrote the answer to question 31, Realtime instead of Real-time and for 33 Yield instead of Yields, would these be wrong?

Thank you for the content. It is, though, a bit unclear what material is for academic English and what for general. I personally am interested in the IELTS Academic, but in sections like speaking, for example, it is not clear to which you refer. Could you clarify?

Academic Writing Task 2
The emergence of budget carriers has enabled a larger number of people to have the ability to take vacations out of their countries. Tourism has been a cornerstone of many economies, not to mention the other value-addedness in terms of cultural exchange. Despite some small inconveniences, I believe that vacationers bring advantages to their host nations rather than disadvantages.

Attracting visitors to a country is one strategy countries adopt to boost its domestic markets. Take for example the city state of Singapore, it is a small nation of only 6 million strong. Devoid of natural resources, for mining and export and ample land for agriculture, it has identified tourism as a key pillar of its economic growth from the onset. The nation state’s small population is not sufficient to support many attractions like Universal Studios, casino, Zoological Gardens and concerts. Therefore, Singapore’s Tourism Board works with many counterparts to run tourism campaigns to attract visitors to her sunny shores.

Visitors also add flavours to the local culture. In instances where locals might not travel abroad, they can catch a glimpse of foreign culture if they interact with those on vacations. Some visitors might even like the country they visit so much that they decide to continue staying there. In doing so, they can further transmit their original culture and enrich the perspectives of natives. With the advent of globalisation in general, we can see various iterations of fusion art, food and music. These are all brought about by exchange of ideas first sparked off by visiting a foreign nation.

On the other hand, excessive tourism can cause overcrowding issues. For example, places of attractions or even transportation might be crowded out by foreign visitors leaving residents fighting for space. In the countryside, the peace and tranquility locals enjoy might be disturbed if hordes of tourists descend into it. For example, Singapore’s National Technological University (NTU) had an unique beehive building that was caught by foreign media. In the following months, busloads of foreigners visited the campus much to the chagrin of students. Their peaceful canteens and study areas were overtaken and this proved a source of nuisance to them.

NTU then established a policy of charging visiting buses a flatr ate to enter campus and also limiting the hours that they can tour the grounds. Therefore, I am of the opinion that when tourists influx is well-managed, the benefits that visitors can bring is greater than the disadvantages they present.

That’s quite interesting because I personally prefer to watch Netflix without subtitles, i used to always put subtitles on but when i tried putting them off it was harder to concentrate what I’m listening to. So subtitles off made me comprehend what i hear better.
