Great video!👍
These 7 tricks are pure gold — simple, practical, and actually work with stuff most people already have at home. The toothpick + glue fix and the hinge pin bend for the "ghost door" are absolute game-changers. I’ve been dealing with a sagging door for months and this just saved me a ton of frustration (and money).
Clear explanations, no fluff, and genuinely helpful. Thanks for sharing your carpenter wisdom! 🛠
00:00 Intro
00:09 Fix #1 – Toothpick Trick
doesn't fix hang and alignment issues due to foundation problems.
01:47 Fix #2 – Long Screw Fix
02:49 Fix #3 – Hinge Bend Trick
Stop with the toothpicks. Get some 3/16” or close diameter dowels, trim with a razor knife, squirt some glue on the dowel or in the hole, hammer tight, break off, and re-drill using a hinge bit. I repair doors for a living.
04:21 Fix #4 – Cardboard Trick
06:16 Fix #5 – Strike Plate Adjustment
A locksmith used anchors when my bathroom door's bottom hinge was loose because of the wood in the frame having become soft. That was thirteen years ago and the fix has held up perfectly.
06:59 Fix #6 – Grind the Plate
07:50 Fix #7 – Door Pin Bend Trick
The top of my front porch door is pulled away...not sucked up like the bottom. It latches fine and I've adjusted the catch which helped a little...any other suggestions? This one wasn't covered

Loved your tips, they make so much common sense but I need someone to show them in a calm and educational manner. Some of my door latch strike plates were cut either to high or to low - could have settling or ... but now the dead bolt or door latch do not meet up with the strike plate - is there any way to correct the strike plate errors short of replacing part of the frame?

@michaelmastrogiacomo7218My door squeaks when I close it, the hinge side touches on the doorstop. How do I adjust this ?
@TubeYou2030My use case wasn't quite covered here. I attempted to tighten/long screw method but that didn't quite fix one of my interior doors. So, the top of the door hits the stop before the rest of the door. It's not catching on the sides at all, but i have to use extra effort to pull the door further to get it to latch. When you close it, it sounds like it closes but it doesn't latch unless you give it an extra tug. It's like the door is leaning forward towards the hallway at the top. How would I fix that?
@JeY_kThank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!

@bootburner4544I just fixed my bedroom door in less than 10 minutes using your tips. It was a "ghost" door that also pinched at the top in the summer when the door expands due to humidity. Really didn't want to have to pull the door off and plane down the edges. Many thanks!!!

@jmhalbaQuick Question. How do you fix an interior door that doesn't sit flush top or bottom with the edge of the jamb? When I close the door it doesn't rest up against the stop, the door sits proud of the edge of the jamb. Hopefully that makes sense. Thank you!!
@erik3137Great tips. How about fixing a sticky patio door at the bottom? Any suggestions?
@ybian1787Thank you for the tips. I didn’t know 2 of them.
My front exterior doors seems to work fine, more months, and then it doesn’t. On more than one occasion I’ve had to step on a chair and using a small hand plane about 2”+~width & planed the wood trim above the steely door. I’ve done this multiple times.
Now my door is sticking along the length of the door. Standing inside and letting the door touch the jamb, there are two places making contact, roughly 5” in length. I literally have to bump it open with the shoulder when standing on the inside. When outside, it is too difficult to open like it should.
Again, because the door is steel, I have the plane the door jam. Too bad I cannot just put the board on my table saw and shave down 1/16” inch.its kinda a big deal to keep coming back to this door in virtually all seasons.
Thanks
Today,
Great, than you
@eileenwitherspoon3323OMG! I'm such an idiot! #3 Hinge bend trick! I was about to take a belt sander to the frame of the door. And that might fix it for a while. Then if the door sagged further later on, I suppose I'd do it again, until I had no more door frame left. And don't even get me started on my fence gate, it's now a messterpiece. Thank you so much for the video!
@BoogerMan309What about a warped door slab that is 1/4 inch proud at just the top corner? AI says the long screw in the top hinge may correct this, but I can’t find any videos that explain this, just a video that recommends prying up the doorstop and adjusting it, which I don’t trust myself to do.
@emeryzanebarrus6919Thank you Funny man!
You solved my problems!
I just wanna thank Tony Romo…..errr The Funny Carpenter for the tips!
