Five Dead After Rescue to Save Struggling Swimmer Goes Wrong in Ohio River
Video Overview & Insights
Five people, including two sets of parents, horribly died trying to rescue a struggling swimmer in an Ohio river on July 19 — leaving multiple young children orphans.
I don't go into water past my waist but can someone tell me can you float on your back if you're struggling and you can't swim? Is it possible. ?
A group of five adults, two children, and another individual was out on the Scioto River to “enjoy themselves a summer night” of fishing when the tragedy unfolded, Delaware County Sheriff Jeffrey Balzer said at a news conference.

I’m not sure a b-roll package was the right decision.

I remember when I was 18 and becoming a lifeguard in Las Vegas.. instructor told me one of the most dangerous situations is when you're trying to save a drowning person. They will try to cling on to you like a rock. They will take you under. They won't let go of you. You are the only buoyant thing in an area of water that they can grasp and have hope to not die. They will not let go.
@d.a.s.3921Why do people go around water, knowing they can't swim, then not wear a floating device or preserver ...
@Vantage-c5qThe sign says no swimming for a reason people.
@bbrcummins1984Ok so Americans are fat and out of shape, I'm hitting the YMCA next week, I swear.
@johnpaullennon1199The hell's the point of this video?
@RemoveForeignJudgesLife is short ! The man who took a pic of them the day they passed couldn’t sleep . Said he’s haunted because he took the pic of their final moments alive and it’s surreal . Because they were all in the water without anything just fishing . And you can see it’s girls and guys just standing in water that was considered dangerous. But they were from another country in South America and I don’t think they knew the dangers unfortunately. Sad ! Whole family gone ! Rest In Peace 🙏
@johngonzo9671How about some details.. Horrible reporting as expected.
@Slow_As_We_GoIt they are drowning, they will climb you like a tree if you get close to them
@jeffsizemore6699This is some great reporting
@airconditionersexposedWear a life vest..problem solved..it's a boating law
@JamesFehr-n3oSo, uh , who died?

@PixieDust1966How? There has to more to this.
@HalokroggAncestors have fatigue too
@CountryGirlOnAMissionit should be '.... wrong in an ohio river.' Right now, the reader believes it is in THE ohio river

@villreee5939Keep making awesome videos
@jakiyarebasiyateIf a drowning person grabs u, swim down underneath them and hope that they release you upon realizing you're diving deeper so you can swim sideways away from them before attempting to surface.

@SK-lt1soVery Sad ...
@douglascoggeshall2490Don't try to be a hero
@kalasatwater2224😮W⁸E pay Talkin' Heads, Athletes, Politicos, Actors, Execs $$$$$$, yet never see them in harms way. For those who risk and sacrifice for the rest of us it's chump change and a Thank You. For rescuers and those battling a wildfire it's ~$25/hr, a nurse working 12hrs, saving a life it's ~$40/hr, a veteran with a 100% disability gets ~$3900/m, A police officer dealing with thugs it's ~ $35/hr. An E7 Coastie makes ~60k/y. Think About that.
@danpress3817I do not believe you.
@DgurlSunshineCondolences to those survivors. May they RIP
@corinneanderson1273never try saving someone drowning if you don't have a floatation device. You will die, then someone will try to save you, and they will die, and it will keep happening until no ones left
