The thing about AI anything is that it takes things to happen for it to learn from its mistakes. If you watch how Ai learned to play super Mario years ago, it took thousands of times to play before it perfected the game. This is no different, these machines learn from mistakes then share the information to all other trucks and cars. This means no Tesla has encountered this problem, so they will learn from this and it shouldn't happen again but also the trooper is at fault for being in the road. That being said they will have to make the trucks slow down and move into the next lane when lights are present. Police knew better but expected everyone would move over automatically.

The ELD's came out to prevent drivers fatigue so drivers don't fall asleep and crash. The ELD"s are a failure. This needs to be repeated to the FMCSA And all social media. The only thing that can prevent divert fatigue is the drivers decision to stop and park the truck so the driver can get some sleep.

The truck should have saved the situation. I drive. I was on the highway when a really stupid woman decided she was going to completely stop on a freeway to let another complete moron that doesn’t know how to merge, pull onto the highway at a snail pace. The woman didn’t look to see if there was an 18 wheeler or any other kind of vehicle behind her. I was on the brakes early. I would have stopped in time. The truck decided to stop faster than that.
This truck should have stopped before the collision. The technology is out there. It’s wide spread and basically industry standard. Whether it’s autonomous or not, the truck could have and should have stopped itself without driver input. Were the driver assistance systems turned off?
