Finding the world's best luxury car - what's quietest and most comfortable?

Wow the BMW i7 was super quiet; surprised by the dB reading. Did they test the noise on the same road at the same speed?

Missing from this test: 2nd or 3rd generation Toyota Century, Bentley Mulsanne, Lexus LS400 or 600Lh, Mercedes 600, current gen Maybach, Audi A8L, current Genesis G90. All of these cars are renowned for luxury, smoothness and quiet.

Without busting the budget I vote my 1948 Bentley Mk.6 Others may be quieter but will cost more.

Okay, maybe the Rolls Royce is the winner, but its price is much more than the BMW's price😐

Be worth doing this exercise with normal cars. Car journos love to assess the ‘sportiness’ of everyday cars in reviews when this is largely irrelevant to how their buyers will experience them. Comfort, bump and pot hole absorption, ride quality, smoothness of drivetrain and quietness (suppression of road noise, lack of wind noise etc) are often despatched with a couple of sentences while high speed handling, straight line and corner speed take up the bulk of the driving impression sections. Not clever for cars that will spend 90% of their time either in traffic jams, pottering or on motorways.
How about a review that looks at the all round most comfortable, cosseting and quiet cars to drive but every day cars, both ICE and BEV/hybrid? Can outsiders from Volvo, Genesys, Citroen or elsewhere outperform the usual premium priced German competition?

No Mercedes because S class definitely The Winner.

I find a test like this without the "owner" sitting on the opposite side of the driver destroys the whole purpose of the test and that is a shame.

Just cram the Phantom interior into the Bently and add some technology titbits from the Bmw 7 so we can call it a day. Perfect, just perfect. ❤

Best vehicle or platform for Luxury car is van actually, for city driving and for overall packaging. But most people are traditionalist when it comes to shape.

Only the RR and Bentley can ever have the Heritage of a Mercedes....simple. The BMW will always trail the S class and so this type of test only stands until the next gen S appears, sets the NEW standard and everyone else plays catch up. It has always been and will always be that if you want to see what the future of the luxury motor car looks like, look at the tech in the latest S class. Simple!

I think being in the back seat of the Range Rover would drive me nuts, the top of the window was lower than eye level.

My fav too. But it is the best alrounder. One the latest until the Septre came along. The BB has bigger brakes stiffer (larger dia.) Anti roll bars & Driver Assist Pack 3. Have you see the Onyx Conversion?

The Merc S Class is the epitome of decent luxury. The rest is either opulent, as the Rolls or Bentley or kitsch as the 7 Series. Be decent!

The dude in the back obviously never gets driven around as his idea of comfort is to eb able to see what’s coming. I am driven around a fair bit, normally in Mercedes, and I never look in the front. Whether I work, or I sleep… else, I just fucking drive. That’s the whole point!

My old man had a RR Silver cloud 3 in black over gold in the early seventies and we drove to Madrid from London in it, through a hail storm in the Pyrenees that put dents in the roof….but it was gorgeous to sleep as a wee lad on the lambs wool carpets for all that time hahahaha. They still ooze class…😂❤

All very nice cars but why has BMW forgot how to make a dashboard, they found a very wide ipad and made zero effort to make it look like it belonged there so making it look like an expensive accessory. BMW, if you have to do away with instruments, please build a dashboard that makes it feel like a cockpit where the dashboard shrouds the touch screen so it becomes one with the car and not a tacky add on. BMW is a beauty though but i'd choose any of the other modern models here partly due to the ipad. I wish I had the money to waft though lol.

why would you class a Range Rover as a luxury car. they are crap and unreliable or are you going by cost on your selection.
