It's December 18, 2022 and a Boeing 777 from United Airlines has just departed into the stormy skies above Maui. At first, everything appears routine as the Boeing climbs steadily. But then, things start to go wrong.
The captain notices something is off when the airspeed increases faster than expected. As he tries to figure out the cause, he momentarily loses focus on the flight directors, missing the fact that the aircraft is beginning to climb less steeply. By the time he realizes what's wrong, it's already too late—the aircraft suddenly enters a steep dive, just 2100 feet above the ocean.
I remember being in Maui at this time. The weather was horrible.
The Ground Proximity Warning System sounds its alarm. The crew is now in a race against time to regain control and avert disaster as the ocean rapidly approaches. Will the pilots manage to pull out of this dive in time? This is the story of United Airlines Flight 1722.

There is an undeclared war out there, 87 000 aircraft crashes accured since 1970's recordings. That are nearly as many, as German anti aircraft gunners have shot down in Russia in WW2. But here not a single bullet was fired.

My wife and I have been on a United 777 out of OGG bound for ORD back in the day.
More User Perspectives
There's no such thing as flying
No one is meant to fly
Take your chance if you want
Safer on the ground
At least I have some control over my destination versus being 10000 ft in the air
Continue flying on planes that will 50% crash
I'll take the other 50 on the ground
This was totally avoidable and almost led to a crash! Both the pilot and 1st officer should have been suspended for their reckless behavior and failing to report this incident!
@gnosis7662This has to be x plane 12
@pancakeoperator😮 nice
@superjumbojetI feel flaps at 15 should have been repeated as I assume it should have been. Then the Captain would have corrected the mistake.
@camlacasse3760So the whole story in a nutshell. Plane pitches down , pilot pulls back on the control column, plane goes back up . I lost 18 min of my life for that?
@JosephGahagan-vh4pzDude that's an insanely close call
@firstlast---Please save informercials until the end or the very beginning. It disrupts the flow and makes me tune out. Good luck
@theadamdrunkwichfiles5923My god 😳😳😳
@bastianriveroVideo starts at 8:00
@PHILOSORAPTOR5279If the captain says flaps five, make SURE you give him flaps five.
@rixxy9204It seems like the captain should have been verifying the flap setting instead of looking for all the other possible problems.
@basrinak6372Wouldn't the first thing they'd check be the flaps? It's one of only a few things you have to set for takeoff and reset for flight.
@pillettadoinswartsh4974Again interesting TWO Pilots, but confused, slow recognition, least Passenger realize.
Not even defective Plane.... Should be info on such Pilot, I would chose not to fly.....
Was it because of this incident that the FO repeated the captain's order back before performing a task?
@Musicsandpoem"I will take 6 double vodkas, please."
@IamGenoBlackWow so glad I clicked on this video and had to hear about your gay-ass grandfather
@howtoliveonearthYTSurvivors 378
@tdickensheetsDamn, this incident would have been perfect if it happened in December 17th. I mean with regards to its flight number 1722 lol.
@w1ldm4n82plane never should have taken off in the first place, given the conditions
As is so often the case, its professionals not following procedures. One stupid oversight by the pilots and all this chaos is the result
@IverKnackerov>calls hismelf an airline channel
>talks about 777-200
>shows a 777-300ER
Question: do all surviving pilots lose their licenses after screwing up their flights?
@LadyOaksNZThe 1st officer should be fired!
@gcklopls make intros short
@mehmetumut4683The most upsetting part of this whole incident is the fact that the pilots decided not to report it.
I find this shocking.
This video is longer than the flight
@raggamuffin2682planes should be delayed
@Mystic--AirspaceWhat i like about this channel is that your videos are made for professional pilots and enthusiasts as they are brief and into the point
@shamseddinbzeek14173:26 bay areaaaaa
@Rm_BayGolfGlad that captain saved the day, but both the pilots not reporting incident need to have their licenses removed of suspended for certain period of time
@Lightningzr10Ronaldhino as a kid
@jessegascaPlanes should drop oxygen masks & diapers simultaneously. Fortunately, the passengers arrived in SF where their smell wouldn't be noticed.
@AaronBernstein-pw2meI got goosebumps when they saved it at 700 feet above the ocean that’s crazy
@teodripzz42025 hours left to fly and act cool, after you screamed your death scream.
@susanhayden4327It’s ridiculous that Boeing doesn’t have hot mic (intercoms) like the airbus. Boeing pilots have to yell at each other.
@jameswarner7132Essa narração de IA é péssima.
@RobinsonCipriano-g8kThe capt has his head up his yass
@markcardwellThis is an ASAP report that should have been filed by the crew
@RWEL3765Pilot not noticing the pitch down that's immediate termination right there , was he drunk or drugged
@atatsmail260No fo does a literal walk around
@UrmaddddIt wasnt reported ? The captian and United tried to bury the incompetence of its crew. Both pilots should have been banned from working together and made to take extensive retraining.
