How is your day going?
Me proving I didn't waste the last 4 years of my life in under 5 minutes.

I went to New England School of Communication that has a section for Filmmaking. That was pretty much my film school. But I still haven't found work. I've also been trying to get a job with my local news stations and they still haven't asked me for an interview.

I really wanted to go to film school because I love cinema and I'd love to learn more about editing, color grading, and related things, and because I have some ideas and plots for short films, but I don't know...
@diogofbairrasDropped out last year and never looked back
@angroooo9000This appeared way too late, im already enrolled and have halfway through my first trimester :(
@celesteia_1It’s baffling that people who want to make connections with other likeminded people when it comes to film, go into debt to do so at a school, instead of just, ya know, making connections with each other for free or cheap at conventions. Furries and weebs can do it. We truly live in a society
@NahM82:46 not at all
@l3x10100:51 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@l3x1010Growing requires time, effort, and dedication.
@ThiagoReedThis applies to all degrees by the way🤞🏿
@mashi_rsalmao im already in LA .. lucky me...heh...
DO I DO LAW OR FILM IDK AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhh
As a recent film school graduate, I’ll say that I appreciated film school mostly for the academics and the professors. The class sizes were pretty small which seemed like a good thing on paper until things got really clique-ish and I couldn’t conform to my major’s rigid class system (we were mostly divided into nerds and hipsters, though I could never fully identify with one or the other. They were also ruled by two of the biggest narcissists in the program who surrounded themselves with insecure, impressionable underclassmen to feel better about themselves, but that’s beside the point). Socially, it was really tough to find a go-to group of collaborators, but I eventually found collaborators that I felt a genuine kinship with. In short, film school was good for me academically, but not socially
@emmanuelbeatty2777As a journalism major that had some overlapping classes with film majors, I found that they were the most arrogant & talentless people I've ever interacted with. Most of their movies look like a child's home movies made with equipment that cost thousands of dollars. I wanted to learn about film & help out on student projects & they often declined non-film majors as not being "real filmmakers" & declined enthusiastic actors for not being theatre majors. I also noticed that a lot of film majors look like Beavis and Butt-head
@SwirlyJoeI’m gonna go to MTSU to major in film making and media management 😊
@OurBoyBilboWith the money it costs to get into film school, Why not invest it in your first movie? Learn on your own! There are countless YT channels about filmmaking: StudioBinder, Film Courage, D4Darious, Standard Story Company, and more. Make short films with your phone, gain experience, learn how to write scripts, edit, create shot lists... And when you feel ready, take the plunge. All you need are two to three characters and a single location.
@miguelvidalmartinez9456i want to go to film school so i can learn but i also want to study a whole other thing because its safer and fml
@ChaoticNeutral00omg this is so good
@vicenzoartan01:56, okay, so you said i should apply if i am at 0.... Okayy thanks I am at 0.... EDIT: Hey bro, i saw that there are Many creators out there who submited Film project to the Uni and i don't think that the thing they made is a art of begginer, wth i'm cooked bro, those are the begginers Uni are accepting??? Like they already got cam they don't need Uni stuff they got skill way more than us, teach us rather than them 😢 😢
@Chibae-DocI’m considering going to a film school after grabbing a bachelors and something different
@KingCam05take a shot every time he says "film school"
@adebolabballGo to film school.
Get told to watch films and watch youtube videos.
How did he know about my david lynch club
@gr8stginge1853:32 Oh shoot, so I'm fucked then
@ShiAnniii0:56 I thought everyone there is the David lynch dude (or dark knight dude)
@DanielPinkasySpielberg was actually rejected from USC, then went to a normal collage, only to drop out to pursue his dream of filmmaking.
@DanielPinkasythis made me anxious
@3verestrryeah, that video didn't helped in answering the question " Should I go to film school?"
@useless_freakthis video is 100% usefull ty
@Matheus-lz9orHudson Williams went to film school and it turned out worth it. His performance in Heated Rivalry was phenomenal.
@iloveenglishtranslationwhat would be its benefits ? im curious, because i may or may not learn the same stuff from film school which i can find available online for free, so whats the advantage of it
@ReaptideI made up my mind years ago that I dont want to go into debt, with the only exception being a mortgage on a house. So, ya, no film school for me. Then again I heard that as far as editing goes most places only teach editing programs and not editing theory, so instead I got a job as a documentary editor. Not a junior editor, not an assistant editor, but a creative editor straight out of the gate.
@channelname-h4zTake a shot every time he says film school
@Dat1SleepNoMoreFani love films and wish to one day make my own movies, i majored in film for a bit then i dropped it and went back to theatre, BA in theatre to be specific. I love films for sure and I still want to do them, but i won’t lie that a lot of my time was mostly sitting, watching movies and form discussions and that’s it. I didn’t hate it but i also didn’t like that we didn’t do any hands on activity. for theatre, i did all of this as well BUT i did direct small play scenes with my peers as actors and i also learned how to memorize lines and be an actor in their scenes. I learned how to write a play, be a play write and enjoy doing all of this. it’s so fun and i had a better time, i still want to go out there and do acting, writing for plays and directing as well screenwriting. It will be hard but having the drive for it is fun and exciting. pls don’t stop your dreams, do them bc it is your life, just have fun, make decisions for yourself and talk to people. connections is needed
@bubblykoiHE HAD 0 FRIENDS! NOW HE HAS 12! PAY SOME RESPECT FOR THIS GUY!!!
@vood__3Still the best film school is Robert Rodriguez’s 10 Minute Film School. Just go make a movie.
@ManUnhappytake the tuition money and use it to rent a shitty studio apartment in the nearest major city to you that has a film school. get a shitty day job. find the dive bar that film students go to and hang out there with the goal of spending/drinking as little as possible until you get the opportunity to buy beer for film students. befriend them and weasel your way into their social circle. at this point you've already gained the social/networking benefit of film school, especially if you listen more than you talk.
If any of your friends are taking particularly good/interesting classes, ask them if you can tag along, read the books, etc. In exchange you can offer to buy coffee and do scut work (gofer/grip). To a film student, an unpaid assistant is incredibly valuable and none of the professors will care if it's a lecture format. You've now gained most of the education benefit of film school for the cost of coffee and elbow grease.
to anyone wanting to get into film school after watching this video. I did a film degree and my biggest regret is NOT making friends. I have always been an introverted person, i'd prefer to keep to myself and play video games or read books.
Collaborate, get out there and actually foster friendships with your classmate and fellow filmmakers.
As a current film student, I would say film school isn't for everyone, and it's definitely not for me. It's a great place to start for people who don't know much about movies and want to get into the industry conveniently. Going into film school with a couple of short films made professionally (I mean like with ample knowledge about the production in depth), most of the time I don't feel inspired enough because it's mostly about exploring your voice (at least for Tisch). As aspiring filmmakers, I think top film schools shouldn't be afraid of giving students constructive though sometimes cruel feedback because that's what we need to grow as a filmmakers , but unfortunately, we don't have that most of the time.
@danakx9874Imma be back in 4-5 years and I'll tell you how it went
@funkierblumGo blue demons baby
@JOHN-HUBBELLI watched this video some time ago, at the time I was doing business and finance, as I was growing into a man I though it would be responsible to pick a career like business, you know get that corporate job, go to the office Monday to Friday, 9-5, maybe were a nice suite every day, it sounded appealing but the reality is that I'm not that guy I don't have the qualities and I don't want to have the qualities needed to be in such a position.
From when I was kid to now I always wanted to express my self, I was never the type to play the most attention in class.... I was a fool boy but when the teacher gave me a chance to wright I felt I could explore my mind on tails could read in front of the class and for a some minutes I wasn't the fool boy doing the same foolishness, I was someone that inside the class was worth hearing.
Coming back to when I decided to leave my mayors in business and focus on understanding what I truly wanted to do, one day I crossed paths with this and many other videos that I saved or liked time ago, I started to have conversations with family about topics that require soul, I asked about the arts that they hoped to learn and master but never did, I feed myself with their wisdom gained with their victories and losses and then I made my move. After 2 years decided to return to university to do film production, I'll be starting soon very soon and I wanted to share this, my story, its far from over, with the help of God but it definitely feels like a new beginning. I hope this helps or even just entertains someone out there and to Karsten GREAT VIDEO!!!
a24 is so good tho lmao
@glasszeninthis video was extremely helpful. Can you please make a video on whether or not we film makers should finish secondary/high school?
@awesome88goldIm going to university to do Film Production and I'm trying to learn how the modules work and i ended up stumbling on this😊
@Nessa-DaGoatSpielberg arguably created the greatest blockbusters of all time as a college dropout. He then famously went back to school to finish his film degree after Saving Private Ryan. Everything he has made since then has been forgettable slop. If you need any reason not to go to film school, look at how Steven Spielberg went from making Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Schindler's List with no education to making A.I. and War of the Worlds after finishing school.
The only worthwhile benefit of film school is networking.
