Everything I Watched at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival (it was a flop…) 🎬

Video Overview & Insights

I attended the Cannes Film Festival for the very first time and watched 9 different movies. Here's a video all about my experience at Cannes: how I applied, who I saw, and what I watched. Which of these movies are you excited to see?

You look like young salma hayek ❀

Colony 5:05

Very interesting... this is the first time watching you: at first, I was put off by your style, rhythm of speech and mannerisms, but because of the subject matter, I stuck it out - and guess what!? You won me over! The more I watched and listened to your reviews of the movies you saw, the more I was struck by your intelligence and appeal, ha! By the end of the video, I ended up really liking your style and mannerisms - not to mention the perceptiveness of what you said in your reviews!

Hope 11:30

Fjord 14:20

In Romania they realeased Fjord for one day in 90 cinemas across the country. I saw it and have to say that it wasn't so nuanced, knowing about the real case that happened 10 years ago. It was 60-70% leaning to the religious family. Also I think the direction was unconvincing, it felt like he tries to be another flavour of director in many shots. His style works better in the film before this one, RMN. I can see him choosing to be more empathic with the victims, but the way he does it is unconvincing.

Her Private Hell 16:45

Victorian Psycho 18:05

another video about cannes and i have the same question again: did no one watch Minotaur? like, why the fuck were you even attending the festival if you weren't going to watch the best film in the selection?

β€” @lapsijahti

The Man I Love 19:40

La Bola Negra 20:20

The more people shit on HPH, the more it makes me want to see it. His films are either you get it or you don’t. Most don’t (this is not a bad thing).

It's so odd to hear that Ira Sachs created an Oscar bait film, he's such a empathetic director usually. Still looking forward to it (as even Sachs at his worst usually tickles a particular spot in my brain), but sad that it may not live up to his usual level of quality.

I feel like part of the bias at Cannes, aside from the staff being there, is that a lot of the time they are clapping for their friends or at least people who want to work with them one day
So it would be a bold move for someone to go "yeah I didnt bother clapping for your mid movie at Cannes, lets do a better one now"

I remember when the Cannes audiences used to be known for booing and heckling the cast/director if they really hated something. It was actually a point of pride for some movies to get lots of walkouts and boos. These 15 minute ovation for everything audiences have gone soft.

Love the explanation of the festival at the beginning. The ticket drop and disappointment totally reminds me of my experience at Sundance πŸ˜…

So awesome you got to attend! ❀ I love your film reviews and critiques. You have a real nuanced view for story and structure as well as costuming and set dressing. Thanks for recapping your trip!

You should go to TIFF! You did such a great job at summarizing your reviews. Super thoughtful. It was refreshing you weren't kissing the butts of the super hyped or sensationlized films. Thanks for raising standards for film haha! P.S, if you liked that actor who played the villain, definitely check him out in the K drama We are all trying here. He's brilliant in it!

Thanks for giving your opinions, Tessa. You're lucky that you not only got to attend the Cannes festival, and be in the same vicinity as the legendary Peter Jackson!
