Slight correction: Barry Bonds got the HR record in 2001, not 2004. The single season OPS record is what was set in 2004. My fault, thanks for the corrections!
In this paint explainer style video, I talk about every era in MLB & baseball history, including MLB star players, insane stats, and unbroken MLB records.

3:40 one thing worth mentioning about why the dead ball era ended was because of the death of Clevelandâs SS Ray Chapman in 1920, who was killed after getting hit with a pitch to the head. The ball that was used had been in play for over 70 pitches, was covered in dirt and spit, and became increasingly erratic as it was thrown and harder to see as it came over the plate (as were many balls during this time, although this one being the most important).
Another reason this tragedy happened was the lighting. No stadium during this time had the technology to install big stadium lights that we use today. So if games ran towards dark, the umpire would suspend the game and it would he resumed at a later date. On this day in particular, the ump let the game go on a little too long, making the ball even harder to see for Ray Chapman. Nothing was changed about this until 1935, well into the live ball era, when Cincinatti became the first team to implement lights, thus leading to the first night game in MLB history.
Rayâs death was the straw that led to MLB implementing the dead ball rule in 1921, which requires the ball to be replaced every time it gets dirty, and banned the use of spitball pitches.
Great video, there were many other reasons why the dead ball era ended, but I thought this was a particularly interesting story.
0:38 sorry the what league
@CoeAhearnItâd be cool if the MLB played one week per season of Dead Ball Era rules
@SpaceCowboy-u7jDid you say steroid? The best MLB goat in history?
@AirFromEarthRule changes always make things worse. Always.
@HarryHache-i8sNOT 15 MINUTES 7 SECONDS SHORT
@1voidyyAnything prior to Jackie Robinson shouldn't count lol! If they was integrated we could say who was great.
@williamrobinson8859Youâre missing a ton of information from the deadball era and a little before that. There was a mega star already before Ruth. The way the game was played in 1880 vs 1930-1999 or 2026 is entirely different. I mean very different. Records should only count for eras only, not as a whole. You canât compare Arnold in Bodybuilding to Dorian Yates due to how different the eras were. The Hall of Fame has done some highly political garbage in recent times so most of my former respect for them has gone away too.
@hydro.pl.27every channel that uses this stereotypical stick figure with the exact same layout when they talk about events is 100% of the time using gen ai to create it
@deadcraft9166Great video! Just one thing- when discussing the introduction of the DH, you showed a picture of Ted Simmons when he was on the Cardinals. But the NL didn't have the DH back then- he was a DH later in his career, when he played for the Brewers.
@chrisrusso554Nice video
@carlosypuntoquintana6572Cy Young is no where close to the goat, he didnât even have one cy young award
@Saucebanditsnutwhile i agree with your overall assessment and spirit, the premise that the k-shaped economy not good for rich people is absurd. This environment is not a natural disaster it is happening because of choices the people in charge of our economy (rich people) are making. And they are making them because they are incentivized to (âbenefitâ).
@TaylorabruceBabe Ruth was light skinned and passed for white - he was def Black
@MALACHINYCI think the bases being bigger was a safety thing as well. More room for the runner to step on and avoiding the 1st basemenâs foot/ankle
@GroomersUseAnimePfpsHow can you not mention 1869, when the first professional team was formed in Cincinnati?
@TheGAdams005What about the worms era
@billypanovecSo basically, the modern era is defined by Shohei Ohtani
@rave.n_musicYou completely skipped the American Association
@farpointgamingdirectThe pitching eraâŚ.. The pitchers werent dominatingâŚ. The rules were broken. Make a basketball hoop larger, what is gonna happen? This video is weird as fuck. Itâs like ai slop with a brain dead white boy trying hard to figure out what all this means.
@XXXXSTORMXXXXLook at the dudes pictures from the early 1900s baseball was hugely popular. Most of the players that were successful looked like average Joe's. Modern sports are so fucked up that unless your daddy/mommy is a millionaire that pays for your training While you're in diapers still. You won't play in the mlb. Damn this corrupt world its time for it to end since we can't look to a single sport or a single anything without seeing copious amounts of retarded corruption
@michaelrebh3039I was in middle school during the steroid era and itâs a huge reason I still watch baseball to this day. It made it so exciting to watch back then
@RighteousCarmikel90s-2009 was the best era.
@comrade73764:15 **FARTHER. Not FURTHER.
@iLoveGrammar46The other Orioles were the future New York Yankees
@SeanPilcher-t5z2:35 Ty Cobbâs .366 is âone of the highest in MLB historyâ.
Huh?
Nobody will ever have a 56 game hitting streak, but somebody might get 512 wins in the future?
Huh?
2:03 17 hr per game? Am I being small brain?
@nicholassimdon599413:05 âimplenting this shi-â
@Saintiag0_0Eric Davis completely changed my opinion on being so critical of the steroid era with one simple fact. He knew plenty of guys who did them and still sucked. They only make you stronger they dont improve your skills.
@theBigDGribbleWeird to mention the Baltimore Orioles in the first era but not the Milwaukee Brewers who would go on to become the modern day Baltimore Orioles lol
@overtonwindowshopperHow is this 11 months ago?
@Synthetic_BanzCleveland was a charter member of the AL
@AW-dq2ooThe original Chicago White Stockings were in Chicago, but started using other names in the late 1800s, before becoming the Cubs around 1903. At the same time, a team was moved from St. Paul to Chicago and took the White Stockings name since it was already popular, which then got shortened to White Sox.
@Ben-pt4zkand now we got ABS
@samfournier1143Babe Ruth is still the best player in the history of baseball. No one since has been so excellent at the whole game. Hank Aaron comes close. Maybe Pete Rose or Shohei Ohtani. Ruth is still above them.
@memesthatmakeyouwannadie3133This comment section has to be all bots bro thereâs no way hundreds of ppl are saying the same exact thing over a 100% AI videođđđđđ
@ferreiruhDont like the pitch clock and want the dh rule to go back to american league only.
@dirtyboy601Definitely glossing over the fact Arod threw people under the bus and didn't really come out and admit it until years later in 2009. Then lied again and was suspended in 2014.
@Justin-bg4jxWas looking exciting until they introduced ABS
@mswizzleBaseball wonât be great until a league wide salary cap is implemented
@GiggleNut69No mlb player deserves 700 mill. Thats just insane.
@86rosariodThis modern era will be short the next era will be most likely the saly cap era
@tigershark6007You lost the plot by attributing the Athletics. They were far behind the curve, teams like the Royals and Indians/Guardians were doing advanced mathematical analysis of player value in the mid-80s. The Athletics suddenly realized how far they were behind every single other organization, they caught up and sheer randomness granted them a story
@ark7901Damn, Branch Rickey had those Ben Shapiro eyebrows
@camreeseI'm from St Louis, the 1998 season was amazing. Yes they were on steroids, hell McGwire looked like a bodybuilder. But damn it was fun to watch.
@KingPugulaThe dead ball era was ended by Ray Chapman getting killed by being hit in the head. The ball was dirty and he could not see it coming. Also the baseballs were wound by hand at that time. Then a cork center was added and then they were wound by a machine, making or a more consistently wrapped baseball.
@TheMickeymentalAnd Denny McClain's (garbage person; heckuva pitcher for a handful of years) 31-6 1968 season is totally ignored. It's 2026. No pitcher will ever again win 20 games in a single season, let alone 30 plus. Nonsense video.
