Europe doubles down on Ukraine support ahead of NATO summit | DW News

Video Overview & Insights

Europe’s biggest military powers are stepping up support for Ukraine ahead of a key NATO summit. Germany, France, the UK, Italy and Poland say their backing will not waver. Leaders are also committing to significantly higher defense spending in the coming years. The move is designed to show unity - and signal resolve in the face of Russia’s war. But how united are these European allies really? And will their defense spending plans be enough to meet US expectations?

A show of support is not going to help...this proxy Ukraine idea is not working.....EU should launch a direct attack on Russia....and take control of Russia's natural resources and oil....

More suport, I wonder why? - Ukraine clearly shows they do not need it disrespecting all those that helped them from the start of the war (Poland is one example). That just shows they have FU all attitude, ofc they would still take all the money (their oligarchs have never enough of it to steal).
Clearly Ukraine now does not need more handouts, free lunches on credit from European taxpayers - we have our own problems (high energy prices, rising unemployment, migration), we should arm ourselves if there would a need to directly fight russia not subsidise someone else's war.

The popularity of Merz in tanking, Macron feels very uncomfortable staying in France due to pressure at home, Starmer has just resigned as UK prime minister, but yet they are still doing the same thing that is a very big contributor to what is making those nationals uncomfortable and want them out

Europe once again sleep-walking into another world war.
WWW I —started in Europe
WWW II— started in Europe

What’s wrong with Europe, what is it about Europe that makes diplomacy so elusive, and conflict so recurrent? Other regions—despite their own tensions—have found ways to coexist, negotiate, and manage differences without dragging the entire world into the abyss. But Europe's default setting, time and again, appears to be war, war, and more war. Where is the statesmanship? Where is the restraint? At some point, a pattern ceases to be a series of accidents and becomes pathological.

EU abuse is way out of effing control. Your Ai chatbot feeds you European state media narratives whenever it's asked political questions that even just narrowly relate to the EU policy.

Sounds like mostly just words… I’m betting this is just a way to pump up defense industries in those countries without significantly helping Ukraine. Also, what about Turkey, the host country? They haven’t really supported Ukraine and possibly backed Russia more and undermined NATO’s unity.

Trump’s demand are just TAKO (Trump Always Kompromat Obvious) filling. He doesn’t care about NATO or Ukraine, because Putin told him to focus on keeping sanctions off of Russia, hence the Iran war.

Trump's Administration:

1. Threatened to suspend Spain from NATO - Direct attack on alliance integrity, undermining the entire collective defense framework

2. Shut off intel to Ukraine without warning - Directly enabled Russian advances and caused Ukrainian soldier deaths, demonstrating willingness to sacrifice allied security

3. Threatened to annex Greenland - Direct sovereignty violation against NATO ally Denmark, creating existential security concerns

4. Threatened to withdraw US diplomatic support for European territories (e.g., Falkland Islands) - Abandons allies on critical territorial disputes, signaling potential future abandonment

5. Delayed weapon shipments that European countries had already paid for - Financial losses and demonstrates unreliable supply chain, eroding confidence in US as partner

6. Extended authority to shut off U.S. tech for individuals/areas (ICC judges) - Weaponizes technology as political tool, showing willingness to cut off services for political ends

7. Called NATO "useless" and "cowards" - Public verbal attack undermines alliance morale and cohesion

8. Started a tariff war against allies - Economic damage that strains relationships and creates trade barriers

9. Talked about making Canada become the 51st state - A direct sovereignty threat to a major NATO ally, creating profound distrust.

Europe and Canada are better off without USA
