The conversation begins with an analysis of Nepal's current economic situation, examining the root causes behind the country's economic slowdown, employment challenges, capital shortages, business environment, and long-term growth prospects. Yubaraj Sangroula discusses whether Nepal can achieve meaningful economic growth over the next decade and what reforms are needed to unlock the country's potential.

The discussion then shifts to Nepal agriculture and explores whether agriculture can become Nepal's primary source of income. Topics include food security, productivity, modernization of farming, rural development, and opportunities for sustainable economic growth.

Another major segment focuses on Nepal hydropower, data centers, and investment strategy. Should Nepal continue prioritizing hydropower projects? Can data centers create value for the country? What are the risks and opportunities associated with large-scale infrastructure and foreign investment?

The podcast also covers Nepal-China relations, Nepal-India relations, regional geopolitics, international diplomacy, tourism development, and Nepal's position in an increasingly competitive global environment. Yubaraj Sangroula shares his views on how Nepal can maintain national interests while attracting investment and strengthening economic partnerships.

The conversation concludes with insights into governance, election campaigns, public policy, leadership, and five key objectives that Nepal's next government should prioritize to ensure economic growth, job creation, investment attraction, and national development.

00:02 What's Next For Nepal's Economy

A topic on this Brother
# *Why Nepal Should Think Twice Before Building Large AI Data Centers*

As artificial intelligence grows, major technology companies are building massive data centers around the world. But before Nepal welcomes these projects, it should learn from the experiences of some communities in the United States.

In several U.S. states, residents living near large data centers have raised concerns about constant construction noise, loud cooling systems running day and night, heavy water use to cool servers, increased electricity demand, and pressure on local infrastructure. Some communities have also questioned whether the economic benefits are worth the environmental and quality-of-life impacts.

Nepal's greatest strengths are its clean environment, abundant natural beauty, tourism, agriculture, and hydropower. These resources should be protectedтАФnot overburdened by projects that require vast amounts of land, electricity, and water.

While data centers can bring investment, they often create relatively few long-term jobs because many operations are highly automated. Nepal should carefully consider whether the trade-offs are worth it.

Before approving any large AI data center, Nepal should require transparent environmental studies, public input, and strong protections for local communities.

*Let's learn from the concerns raised in parts of the United States and make informed decisions before bringing large-scale AI data centers to Nepal. Nepal's future should put its people, environment, and natural resources first.*

Majority of our external debt may be from multilateral institution like world bank and ADB but for India it is around 10% of external debt this does not mean they do not borrow from abroad. foreign banks and shareholders hold Indian bonds and even domestic Indians bank borrow from foreign banks. It is similar China. If they take loans from abroad why only are we suffering from economic geopolitics?
It looks like more than 50% of Nepali are employed in agriculture but our percentage of GDP of that share is just 23% and we are not self reliant even when more than 50% of Nepali work on that sector. We dont need more small scale farmers farming in their backyard we need major agriculture reform focused on large scale investors which the current government has done with 40% subsidy on more than 2 crore investment.

I read that government also has plans to establish sovereign wealth fund from the forex reserves which is good step.

US is the highest producer of Oil even larger than Russia and they are agricultural powerhouse. Not only petrodollar all other commodity in the world market are sold in dollar as well and makes up higher share than petrodollar combined. They are pacific ocean away from any major power and they are very rich in resources. All talents from the world including top students from China and India end up in USA. The only risk is that collapsing of petrodollar could make other commodity also switch from dollar. At worst case scenario US may back out of being a "global hegemon" but them collapsing is fairy tale. Even if they loose global hegemony they will still be a major global power in the multilateral world they would have most leverage to deal with other major powers as they do not share a boundary in case multi polar world happens. They are the most self reliant country in the world they can afford to do this in the world because they are self reliant on energy and food and many other thing. China isn't. China and Russia also have fundamentally different interest they may want end of dollar but they have many many problems among themselves. The most recent one being the disagreement on Siberian pipeline through Mongolia to China and the worst one which they keep under the rug for now but is bound to emerge is their territorial dispute and how China fells in century of humiliation Russia captured its territory. They may have kept it under the rug by border agreement but two continental powers sharing border are bound to clash as their national interest apart from dedollarization is fundamentally different from each other.

We can invest in any productive projects in Nepal like infrastructure, hydropower, manufacturing, tourism, even agriculture (especially I really wanted to see Nepal at least self-reliant in agriculture. I know India used to give lot of freebies and subsidies to Indian farmers so they can sell goods cheaper than us, but we have to sacrifice something for our economic independence.)
A personality like him who can steer the country's economy in the right direction should be in long-term integrated policy making.
All of this we can only achieve if we have HONEST and STABLE government, which we already made it (which was also impossible for more than 30 years). Your vote matters, Thank you allЁЯЩП
