Introduction: The Challenge of Learning English
Many English learners struggle with knowing how to study English effectively and creating a consistent routine that advances their skills from intermediate to advanced levels.
The key problem addressed is the lack of a proper study routine that allows learners to study English consistently and enjoyably.
Teacher Tiffany promises to share a morning routine designed to help learners speak English fluently by following a structured approach.
[00:40]
Part 1: Five-Minute Writing Session to Activate the Brain
The first step is a 5-minute journal writing session every morning about your plans for the day.
This writing warms up and activates the English-speaking side of your brain in a relaxed manner immediately upon waking up.
Learners often think in their native language first thing in the morning; this exercise helps switch that to English.
The writing should be brief (only 5 minutes) and focused on your daily schedule, like work, school, or personal tasks.
Important practical tips:
Keep your notebook and pen next to your bed or close by.
Set a 5-minute timer using a phone or watch to ensure consistent timing.
Write continuously without stopping or erasing mistakes. Mistakes are not important at this stage—just keep writing to build fluency.
The goal is to build consistency and ease with this short daily writing habit, which primes your brain for English thinking.
[04:36]
Part 2: Ten-Minute Input Session for Vocabulary Acquisition
Following the writing, learners watch a 10-minute video in English on a topic they are genuinely interested in (e.g., cooking, sports, technology).
This is an input session focused on listening and comprehension, not formal English lessons.
While watching, learners should write down 5 to 10 new words, expressions, or sentence patterns they do not recognize.
Crucially, learners should not look up definitions immediately; the priority is to listen attentively and identify new terms naturally.
This step increases the learner’s exposure to authentic English vocabulary and phrasing used by native speakers.
The purpose is to improve listening skills and expand vocabulary in a meaningful context.
[08:30]
Part 3: Ten-Minute Research Session to Understand New Vocabulary
After the input session, learners spend 10 minutes researching the definitions and usage of the new words and expressions noted previously.
This step helps learners understand why specific words and expressions were used in the video, enhancing contextual comprehension.
Learners write down:
A definition of each new word or phrase.
One example sentence that shows how the word/expression is used in real life.
The focus is on understanding usage patterns, not yet producing original sentences.
This research deepens vocabulary knowledge and prepares learners for applying these words later.
Practical advice: use your notebook and pen to keep all notes organized for review.
10:56]
Part 4: Five-Minute Application Session to Use New Vocabulary
The final step is to apply the newly learned vocabulary by rewriting your original journal entry from Part 1, incorporating 3 to 5 new words or expressions from Parts 2 and 3.
This connects the activation, input, and research phases by putting new language into practical use.
The rewritten journal entry should maintain the original context (your daily plans) but now use richer vocabulary learned from the video.
Example: If you wrote about a work meeting, and learned the word “innovative” from a video about technology, you can now rewrite your entry to say you have a meeting about “innovative technology.”
This step helps create mental triggers for easier recall and meaningful use in conversation.
The session lasts only 5 minutes; quality and relevance are more important than length.
The goal is to practice speaking and writing about daily life fluently using authentic English vocabulary.
