My experience with DistroKid was extremely bad. My account was closed without any warning, and I lost access to the earnings that were in my account. Even worse, despite contacting the support team multiple times, I did not receive a single response to any of my questions. There was no reply to the messages I sent, and no explanation whatsoever was given as to why my account was closed.

As an artist, you spend a long time working hard to create music, gain listeners, and earn income. However, in my case, after my account was closed, I could no longer access the earnings that remained in the account, and I was unable to reach any representative who could discuss the matter or answer my questions.

Moreover, this was not something that happened only to me. Many people I know have experienced similar situations. They told me that their accounts were suddenly closed, they could no longer access the earnings remaining in their accounts, and they received no response to their support requests.

For this reason, I have completely lost trust in DistroKid. In my opinion, the most basic responsibility of a distribution company is to be transparent with its users and to communicate when problems arise. Unfortunately, I saw none of that during my experience.

I am sharing this message to warn artists who are considering releasing their music on digital platforms. Everyone will make their own decision, but based on my experience, I definitely do not recommend DistroKid. My account was closed, I lost access to my earnings, and despite contacting them multiple times, I did not receive a single response to any of my questions. I would not want other musicians to go through the same experience.

I just finished seeing your 3rd video. I felt that at the end of the videos - there is no take aways. There are no solid information and knowledge sharing. Sorry, I might be wrong. But This is what I feel after seeing a few of your videos. Or in other words I can say they are unclear to me, like, what you want to say. It could be because of difference of region as I come from India. But I will keep listening to you. ❤

I am having 4 of my songs produced. Which Distributor would you recommend I use to collect my royalties that will not scam me?

Didn't know that they have a real people with whom you can talk to. All things that I hear is that they only have an AI bots.

Distrokid should be sued for false advertisement. They do not give artist's 100% royalties. It is no way possible unless they own a music label and give the artist's their 22 royalties. Not 20. 22. Only label owners get the other 2 royalties.

So make that make sense distrokid.

Allows you as an artist to upload illegal music without Harry Fox rights.


This is why they are selling. Before they get sued.

I don't think it is correct to assume that Distrokid owes ~30-40% of said $11b. Most of that royalties goes to major labels, not to a bunch of self-released artists from distrokid, most of whom (about 80% or more) don't reach spotify's payout threshold.

Apart from their awful support, Distrokid makes my life easy. They have competition, so they have pressure on their pricing.

What a mess

I’ve deactivated my account as of today, my subscription lapsed and the music was removed from streaming platforms due to not having the leave of legacy option on anything

However, it’s a bit more nuanced than that…. The subscription lapsed because I forgot to update my card after fraudulent transactions caused me to get a new one (Huge mistake on my part not paying much attention to emails, but I only realized this after supporters asked what happened to the music)

I updated the payment method in November and noticed the fee has now increased another $10 from the previous $39, and I initially subscribed with them at $29/y

Don’t get me wrong, $50 for unlimited uploads is still amazing, but the fact that they can raise the fee to anything at any time never sat right with me (especially now that the company’s up for sale)

January came, and still, music unavailable…. I finally checked the email attached to the account and saw there were metadata issues due to a change in requirements that took place before the failed payment

The email said I’m blocked from submitting anymore music to DSPs because of so many failed submissions, but I never had the option to update the metadata to the music before it was resubmitted

From then until now, I have yet to speak to anyone on the support team about this issue…. And yesterday, I noticed an unidentified charge from “DISTROKID LYRICSBLASTER”

Tried to contact support for that, nothing…. I reported both that and the initial resub fee to my bank yesterday, withdrew the rest of my earnings, and canceled my account for good.

What ? Distrokid made a hundred million ? I made with Distrokid 8,37 $ since I started in August 2024 😂😂😂😂

I am absolutely furious right now, and I need to warn every single musician thinking about using DistroKid.



I'm on the Basic Plan. I still have 9 MONTHS LEFT that I already paid for. Today, I was curious about upgrading, so I clicked the "Upgrade" button just to SEE what the other plans cost. You know, like EVERY OTHER WEBSITE ON EARTH lets you do.



BIG MISTAKE.



As soon as I clicked that button, DistroKid IMMEDIATELY LOCKED ME OUT. I cannot upload any new music. Nothing. My account is frozen hostage.



I contacted support thinking, "Okay, this must be a glitch. They'll fix it." Nope. The agent flat-out told me: once you click Upgrade, your account is switched. You cannot upload again UNLESS you pay for the full upgrade cost right now. There is NO WAY to go back to your old plan. No "cancel." No "proceed to payment" confirmation. No "are you sure?" pop-up. ONE CLICK and you're trapped.



This is predatory. This is a trap.



Every single reputable online store has a shopping cart. They have a checkout button. They have a cancel order option. DistroKid has NONE of that. One click and they demand money, holding your own account hostage until you pay.



I still have 9 months of service I PAID FOR. They took my money, and now they're blocking me from using it because I was curious about their pricing? That is NOT how you treat customers. That is how you set a trap.



If you are on a plan you're happy with, DO NOT CLICK ANYTHING. Do not explore upgrades. Do not look at pricing. One wrong click and your account is dead until you pay up.



I am taking my music elsewhere after this. DistroKid just lost a customer forever.

Distrokid is effectively a scam company. They will charge your credit card at random intervals for services you never signed up for. They have no custom service...just a chat bot that isn't helpful at all. Incredibly frustrating. Do not get sucked into their orbit—you'll never get your music out and you'll be paying forever.🖕
