Disney's TERRIBLE Moana Sequel...

At this point in life, there are some movies that’re best left as a solo title. Pacific Rim being a strong example. Great first movie. Shitty follow up. The incredibles, great first movie, disappointing sequel that pretty much rehashed the first movie’s premise (the incredibles rise of the underminor was a better sequel). Last but not least, M3gan. Decided to check out the first movie, and I ended up liking it. The sequel and its premise on the other hand is cringe in a vague attempt to give the sequel a James Cameron Aliens and Terminator 2 treatment…

about a minute into the second song in this movie, i turned to my mom and said “yeah i don’t think LMM did the music for this one” and honestly that was my biggest gripe. whyyy does the musical not have good music??

The first thing I thought after the movie was that Moana should have died at the end, or maybe like half-died? Demidied. She wouldn't be gone, just existing as a spirit, so maybe she'd be able to lead her sister to be a new wayfinder or something.
Then again, you did bring up a good point that her being a demigod and maui losing his status could be really fun if they did it well. I can't deny that might be better.

Also, I think the fact that the island just tells you where other islands are is kinda dumb. The point of moana's character, and kind of the point of the not-villain-villain's song is that she should be able to find her way through the unknown, not just be led there.
And also, I think them exploring islands would make for a good TV show. Instead of the hidden island plot here, if the show was just about them learning other cultures, and exploring, that would have been really fun

Everything in this movie happens for no reason, nothing is explained, everything feels incredibly rushed and you get zero time to process anything that's happening. This is clearly made for ipad kids with a fried attention span.

You know I always had the theory that Moana did die in that scene with the lightning. But because she was so willing to sacrifice herself to connect the people that the ancestors decided to turn her into a demigod so she keep continuing that journey. Cuz I'm pretty sure she didn't touch the island before she did get hit. I don't think she would have come back. I think she would have stayed dead. But yeah, I know this would have definitely been a better series than a movie because at least then the series had more time to flush stuff out because I watched the movie several times because of my sibling and I still don't know the side characters names.

The only sequel for movies I accept is Shrek and HTTYD

When they make a third, I could see them having Moana loosing her powers, perhaps through some sacrifice, at the end of the movie with some message about human mortal life being valuable or something.

IMO the first moana was pretty lame, with disney's long term track record of disrespecting parents, if not actually killing them off. Can we just have the online dictionary sites list disney as a synonym for lame, greedy, twisted dreck?

The song the non-villain villain sings is the best written in the movie and I have listened to it on it's own several times. But it is best as a standalone song. It, just like all the other songs in Moana 2, contextually doesn't fit. It works as a modern lil' jam that'd be fun to rollerskate to; it doesn't work in a mythos story.
