The 'Devil's Hoof Prints' phenomenon of 1855.
I honestly sort of figured this was three or four boys, siblings or just as close, with some horse shoes and other sundry farm bits and pieces they knew wouldn't be missed- pulling a legendary prank.
Because I know American boys, lol. This is absolutely a possibility.
ETA: lol, I do know these are not American boys, but as descendants of the same ancestry, the point stands, lol.
After heavy snowfall thousands of mysterious hoof-like footprints appeared overnight, stretching over 100 miles across villages, fields. The single-file tracks, resembling cloven hooves, were puzzling due to their odd gait, their appearance in inaccessible areas (e.g., across walls and rooftops), and their immense distance.
The phenomenon sparked widespread speculation and fear, with theories ranging from demonic activity and supernatural forces to animals or weather-related anomalies. Despite various investigations, no definitive explanation emerged, leaving the incident an enduring mystery. The event became part of local folklore, symbolizing humanity's intrigue with unexplained occurrences.
It was the devil trying to find a way into Cornwall without Cornish women putting him in a pasty 😂

I stumbled upon your YT channel by accident, but holy cow I'm staying for longer!
@8bitMandNES' Bjorn Yoyolfson ' ?! A tad yoyo himself perhaps ? 🤣🤣
@pennygleeson5029Looked like a medium size cat print of some sort to me. But, then again maybe not. 😅
@patriciahill4492Balloon?
@caracortage7347I have to be very careful about what I share with my bees. They’re so judgmental.
@jeanieq6153Satan came looking for deals to make
@tonybarde2572The devil wore Prada hooves...😂
@danieldipalma704😮The devil rarely shows himself on earth,if anything it was a demon or 😈 demons.More likely teenager pranksters😅
@Kim-gv5bw😮Here in Australia we'd more likely than not blame the emus😅
@Kim-gv5bw😮Bored teenagers all over the area in a conspiracy to freak people out with their inane pranks😮😅
@Kim-gv5bwDuring this time Conflagration from Comets was high.. Devonshire is famous for It's pixies fairys and gargoyle motifs... because thay are linked to Comets - like cherubs are. Fits the time frame perfectly... I have an Inclination to exactly where these prints come from.

Stumbled over your channel by accident - but truly love to watch your videos. These are well done and easy to understand, chapeau !
@stephanieklein1505Deer tracks
@mnj640I’ve seen these prints while elk hunting and couldn’t figure what animal made them. Eastern Oregon
@gdizzzl.... a bird with a single leg....and a hoof...which hopped along .... good grief! :)
@sharonmorris6668These snow prints look like when a thrush , black bird or starling hop with their feet together and wings out.
@chrisbassett8996My mother was from Belgium and said that during the war there were devil's footprints all over the place and some were burning on people's stairs in their houses. That always scared the beejeebies out of me and you brought it up again. You're the first person I've seen mention them in Belgium...but I hadn't Google'd or anything. Again, such a great watch and you are one of the best storytellers out there...ever.
@mariannsimms5644OMG those drawings look nothing like horse hoofprints whatsoever!
@pencilpauli9442A great departure from the often grim stories we get!
Awesome!
Always wondered how my ancestors lived in Times past. Ignorance breeds religious superstition perpetuated by. Religious zealot’s fervent voices. Poor terrorised people. Would have been my great grandparents’ generation. Still, today, some groups of people are captivated by Preachers and Politicians causing the same problems to those who believe their rhetoric. Thank you for their s story.
@KaryannFontaineikary4All theories about a hoax must be dismissed. The obvious rebuttsl is, where are the hoaxster's tracks?. The ballon theory fails ion the tracks alone. Since there were no drag marks the balloon would have to had hop up and at a perectly even rhythm for 100 miles. It seems to explain the hopping on buildings until you consider it have to suddenly break that rythm to bounce higher just at the right time to avoid the lines crashing into the building, tangling, then halting the balloon's progress.
@kaylibert4020Maybe a mountain goat, Ibex type.
@PoppiStrudelI love listening to your tales and stories. It fills me with the same comfort as a child listening to a grandpa tell tales and stories before bed. <3 love every episode Mr. Brodie
@Crazy_SueHistorically sadistic
@MissCellanious1Dave and Doug, from crop circle fame, did it!
@pamharris990Exactly what I thought in the begging of this, horseshoes or something similar tied to boots would do the trick and even if someone sees you, they won't think twice about what footprints you're leaving, also you won't have a problem with leaving another set of regular human footprints alongside it
@babygraceblue1807Sounds like a prank, similar to how crop circles are made in the fields.
@babygraceblue1807I know what it was. It was Manbearpig! I’m super serial 😂
@annabanana8700Whoa! You have Tim Walz on the thumbnail cover.
😂😂😂😂
Everyone joking , this is a facinating story.

I loved the gunpowder one and it is something I did with my sister when we were down the caravan and everyone getting ready to go out, I emptied the cordite from one of my shotgun shells into an ash tray, so when my sister put out her fag (cigarette for people across the pond) the said cordite flared up. She jumped out of her skin and was so funny. For reference this was in the Eighties when we had senses of humour. Another one was to empty the lead shot on a shotgun shell , discreetly on a block floor of a pub and watch who slipped and fall over.
@DavidLee-yu7yzThanks, Paul✌️
@MizMorgue1The devil never got to heaven instead he went to Devon
@michaelgrattan2084The story with the cat and kittens , bothers me 😢
@LisaStelmach-ok9lhSir, I think you may have been misinformed. From Topsham to Totnes, even going the long way round, is only 28.3 miles, not over 100 miles (or maybe you just believed Wikipedia?) Even if it started in Exmouth, still not 100 😄
@grabtharshammerToday the devil does crop circles. Expanding the brand.
@tsbrowniesome say the devil's dead, some say he's hardy, some say the devil's dead and buries in killarney, more say he rose again , more say he rose again and joined the British army.
@interested-q4dI first heard of this at the age of 14 when I read a book in my high school library called "Stranger than Science" by Frank Edwards. That's also the book that introduced me to "Spring-heel Jack". I'm sure you've covered him in a previous video and I'm about to look for it. If you haven't covered him... for SHAME, sir!!!!!
@charlesballard5251Don't open up that can of worms mate you must know how eccentric people are like the God thing can anybody honestly tell me this crap is true can somebody change my mind
@KenEvans-go9or“Well, the Devil went down to Devon
He was lookin' for a soul to steal
He was in a bind 'cause he was way behind
And he was willing to make a deal” 😅
Wait a minute! STOP the music.
Those were not hooves, they were
shoes for hooves!
The Devil is supposed as shoed???
"Did the Devil Visit Devon in 1855?" Unknown but, he certainly did visit him in 1953, being his influencing favorite ever since!
@jamesmiller4184This was fun! Thank you ✌️🫶
