Derelict House Renovation Time Lapse / Extreme DIY Transformation

Video Overview & Insights

🏡 From a derelict house to our dream home – Watch our crazy 8-month DIY extreme renovation time lapse, as we transform an unloved and abandoned bungalow into our dream home! This is a full home renovation journey packed with DIY ideas, before-and-after shots, and satisfying transformation progress.

What an absolutely mental 8-month transformation, you two should be incredibly proud! 🛠 We are actually just finishing a very similar project on our 1936 house in Oxford—a 35m extension and loft conversion just like yours. We went a step further with full air tightness and an MVHR system, and we’ve been documenting the whole technical DIY journey on our channel. Seeing your time-lapse brings back so many memories of the heavy block-laying and steel days! 🏗

As a Builder with 45 years behind me. I could see maybe north of a dozen errors in how you got it done, and you sometimes surprised me by doing things right that I had really thought that you'd get wrong. One very dangerous thing that you did was to get into a 6ft trench before you had shored it up, especially a trench that had already collapsed. Honestly, that was a real stupid thing to do and I would have seriously shouted at you or worse. I've seen several trenches collapse and those men were lucky to get out, all had broken limbs in a trench just like that.
And get some respirators, at least "P2" because I can assure you that you do not wish to be like me by the time you are 60. I have lung fibroses and cannot even climb the stairs anymore. My excuse for this is that back in my day if you asked for any PPE you simply would not be picked up for work again, today it's far different so always get the best that you can find, generally about £25 quid, and look after them! They will allow you to play football with your Grandchildren later.
Oh and concrete weighs 2.2t a cubic meter, that's why your shuttering bellied out during the pour. I found that bloody funny btw as I made the same mistake in my twenties. It was a wise thing to do by bringing in those chippies,
However, I have to say that you have done a really great job, well done.

22k for a 35 sqm is bonkers.

Cool that there a places in the world where you can do that.
Where I live, most people would be balls deep into dept for the old house alone.
If you do everything on your own, the authorities would come and may force you to "build back" everything, as you need to "officially" request every tiny thing /change you do - for fees ofc and it can take months until everything is approved.
For many people it ends with a never ending construction site and cash grab :D

god all that steel is super overkill i think the structural engineer must have some shares in uk steel lol

why did you wait before grouting the floor? sounds like you made it more complicated for yourself for something that takes only a few hours to do
