Is the true movie star is dying out? The history of the movies is a history of movie stars –- they were the reason why people came to the movies. But now – it’s not actors that draw people to the cinema, it’s properties. The big tentpole releases that get the buzz tend to be ongoing franchises or reboots, where the performers feel subservient to the overall product. On the flipside, actors now have more freedom than they did in the past, and movies aren’t the be all and end all anymore with the rise of prestige TV. So is the true movie star dying out because the business has changed, or because actors have changed?

The Hollywood system from the 80s to 2000s with true Movie Stars was perfection. Now they hire forgettable nobodies to push stupid social messages which crater their 'career' and never seen again.

Hollywood will be dead dead once the Epstein and diddy list comes out
@nilevinsmoke5880When i saw the Avengers voting for Harris in there last tv ad. Im done with all of them. just dont care about movies anymore.
@c.j2527This is also goes into why a lot of tv/film stars are moving towards theater. it'll pay more. They aren't type casted so they can broaden their range. It isn't a nonchalant experience to watch a play, you HAVE to go to the theaters, which makes it a completely different ball game. I remember watching a high school theater production of 'Little shop of horrors' and it was amazing and I can still remember how it made me feel. Current tv and film doesn't have the same effect. Each performance in theater is different. Each feeling an audience member experiences is different. Thankful streaming services have gotten to that yet! (Also even watching Hamilton on Disney+ changed my brain chemistry so yeah theater completely has an im[act.)
@jupiterdrops7752It's much more Basic Than That..Years Ago ppl were Intrigued By Elizabeth Taylor's Hope Diamond..Anyone Care About Meryl Streeps Ring?
@acassman100Maybe their should be a-list actors if did maybe it would have had at least some more viewers even thought it sucked
@VitheshvarChristy-q8nI haven’t watched a movie since like 2008. I don’t have the attention span anymore and all the movies suck.
@DNYLNYThe clip of 1997's "The Peacemaker" was owned by Viacom, not owned by Time Warner, of course.
@markelijio6012Because we know too much about them these days thanks to social media.
@bobcharlotte8724Once we see the POS they are and how they try to push the latest Message they become irrelevant.
@SteveBueche1027I honestly feel like it's not a case of the movie star or at least star power is dying out, more like Hollywood just has crap taste and doesn't have a clue who the audience likes. At this point, it truly feels like any Hollywood movie that succeeds, is going so in spite of whatever "A list" actor they have starring in those movies, not because of them.
@entertainmentfan1463People are tired of being preached too by people who play make believe for a living.
@kathrynoneill5862Death of good movies too.
@kevinhardy8997it is not properties, are good story telling and perhaps not spreading "the Message" and return to the basic, generous clevage pretty women, good loking men, action violence, well placed wise humour, well placed one liners, those are a must in cinema, sexyness, well placed nudes, if you have none of that then you are worthles
@cristinawilligsHate to say it but the movie industry itself is dying and is being replaced by cell phones which has access to millions of hours of content (most free). To survive Hollywood needs to provide something that the consumer can not get anywhere else. What that is I don't know. What I do know is the current business model is no longer working.
@BellsWatsonIn today's market, Dune is considered a masterpiece despite the fact that many audience calling it a snooze fest! Everything has turned into a complete saturation and tastelessness, but the industry just continues its 100 year-old formula of shouting greatness. Sadly, nobody listens.
@SpiderC-666No one likes racist hollywood. 😊
@ABoredTrollWhat happened to music is happening to film. There are to many parallels to point them all out. We just went through the "Britney shaving her head", "Pop music is dead", "Album sales are down, pirating is up" era of the 2000's. Then we went through a phase of forgettable artists and music pumped out just for monetary gain. Now they are just remixing old classics.
@DjVanillaGuerillaDo you have eyes to see / ears to hear ??????? Shepherd's Chapel Network !!!!!!!
@tabathastaples7884Hollywood full of A listers? More like has beens where are new action stars and what's the future of movies going to look like
@lea-rw5cbAs a indian i wanna say that .
If u ask a random guy in india tell a hollywood actor name 75% chance he /she will say Tom cruise
The the rings of power sucked
@VitheshvarChristy-q8nIf Movie stars care so much about Hollywood, they should finace and make more mid-budget movies, preferably good dramas and not agenda flicks.
Cillian Murphy has become a big star thanks to Oppenheimer. Directors like Nolan, Scorsese, Snyder can still draw audiences.
F Hollywood
@allenmills9449This is a good thing I personally believe. Not having movie stars.
@chriskokolios83It means less overpaid actors taking huge bites out of budgets, potentially leaving more for other cast and crew members to get paid fairly. It means more opportunities for lesser known actors instead of the same shortlist appearing in every other film and monopolizing leading roles across the whole industry.
@VogtTDSocial Media killed the movie stars
@lolcopexxTom Cruise is the only star who can sell the movie by his name alone to worldwide audience and grossing on scale of like 500m , 1B
everyone go to see the movie because of him alone not for the Directer name or studios name
He is the last movie star and the biggest movie star of modern era by far
Here’s the thing, technology has changed this industry. There is no going back. ‘Talkies’ changed Hollywood forever. Streaming has changed Hollywood forever. Having said that, we get BETTER film art than ever before. More amazing story arcs and acting than in the past. No the structure is not the same. ‘Stars’ aren’t viewed the same way in the 21st century. Social media changed that. Business Hollywood has to adapt. That’s reality
@mykilahsenwilliamsdorsey1495The Star system is dying actually even in Indian film industry precisely bollywood. This is crazy considering the competition is a lot more fierce there there than it is in hollywood. There is literally hero worship there which is now seen rarely. Only some are left like Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) who can rake in footfalls with their name alone. Both globally and locally. Movies of many stars work in india but do not garner much attention outside of india whereas Flops of SRK regularly atleast gross 10 mn+ overseas which is why he has been called The last of the stars like cruise here
@DidarMahimYea that’s all fine but can we stop making reboots I mean that’s part of the problem I recently discovered that fresh Prince has a reboot and I’m peeved come up with something original for once and don’t just make something based on what the people want to see(Disney)
@darashowers7957I have a slightly different take, not the star that makes the movie, but a good ol fashioned good plot. A lousy plot with a prime Brad Pitt will still likely flop.
But what is more scary is future where Cgi gets so good it can create digital movie stars. Why have Brad when you can have a perfect computer generated amalgamation of Brad, Tom Cruise, Matt Damon and Leo DC and anyone else you want !
I searched for the answer but got nothing here
@aniket19931993Stars used to be classy, and they actually had talent. Now it seems they think the raunchier and more discusting a movie is, is talent, its not. There are very few good movies made these days. There is so little talent out there that all they can do is make remakes. Do they think we're supposed to feel sorry for them cause there not making millions right now. Who cares. A bunch of selfish blowhard liberals
@donnajohnson1124Tom Cruise is the Final Hollywood Movie Star.
@joeaiden4894Barbie proves people are still going to the movies! The problem is that Hollywood has gotten lazy, they keep regurgitating the same old stories and trying to take old classics and make them woke. People are sick of their lectures and their hypocritical behavior. The glamor is lost!
@sherryelebeautyFor me it's not about the actors, it's about the story. If I like the story, I'll watch it, if not, nope.
@zyongslifeLack of originality and laziness of moviemakers killed cinema movies and movie stars.
@antondzajajurca7797When Benji was forced to say "This is the end, Mr Hunt" that has turned out to be foreshadowing. Hollywood is over. Dead Reckoning and Barbie will be the last movies.
@CHebzon-YmEztoixWell i am Not gonna watch some Dude thats plays a super Hero movie and than He plays some bullshit movie = for Exempl Jackie Chan Play in every Movie as Jackie Always the Same Dude - dwayne johnson the Rock He also is eyertime the Same Dude , even Robert downey Jr
@SmileUp_OnThere are no movie stars anymore except Tom Cruise.
@RadioactiveArsenalI still prefer the older generation actors
@shaheedissa9056More and more I have recently trying hard to get back into the art of independent original films but cannot see myself invested into them because I don’t think these new streaming shows or upcoming actors don’t have that veil of A list essence because I have tried hard to follow but I simply just can’t with new names like Paul Mescal , Sabrina Carpenter , Sadie Sink , Jacob Elordi , Jeremy Allen White , Lucy Hale , Daisy Edgar Jones , Rachel Sennot , Jenna Ortega . I just simply can’t place myself at the same amount of immersive pleasure that I felt when you knew you saw somebody that had that pre-Covid mid-budget studio film that gave them that power that secured their status.
