Video Overview & Insights
Neil again! Welcome back to The Energy Academy.
You seem proper cool guy, we need a đș
In the last few episodes, we looked in detail at forward and futures markets - where electricity is traded for a specific price in advance of delivery.
But advance forecasts are never completely accurate - and so suppliers have to fine-tune their predictions - the industry term for this is âadding shapeâ.
Fascinating what goes on behind the scenes everyday to make the energy markets run smoothly
They do this to meet more dynamic, up-to-date forecasts of their customersâ demands.
This is where the spot market comes in. The spot market is for day-ahead and intraday trading.
Im a electricity producer, 20gwh/year. can I use this to hedge my hydrodam to secure further downside than 58euro/mwh for 10 years?
Itâs called the âspotâ market because itâs the market for âon-the-spotâ trading, as in, trading for the here and now.
And âday-aheadâ? Yep, you guessed it - day-ahead trading means that electricity is bought and sold for delivery at some point during the following day.
Super clear and concise explanation of the day-ahead and intraday electricity trading. Thank you for this! You're amazing.
Intraday trading (sometimes called âwithin-dayâ trading) means that electricity is bought and sold for delivery on the same day.
