Dangerous apps - In the web of data brokers | DW Documentary
Video Overview & Insights
What many smartphone users know: the apps on their phones collect detailed location data. What few people know: the information often ends up with a global network of data brokers and advertising companies.
We signed consent on buying our smart phones 📱 from our service provider. 😂 So why the surprise?
The data in question reveals where people live and work - up to and including information about visits to brothels or stays in psychiatric clinics. This film shows how easily unsuspecting users can become targets for stalkers, criminals or secret services. It highlights how seemingly harmless apps can become a security risk - even for soldiers at war, or governments.
This documentary is based on one of the largest investigations of its kind to date: a team of journalists analyzed around ten billion pieces of location data. Their search takes them halfway around the world: to an Egyptian journalist in exile in Berlin who’s being threatened. To Brussels, where high-ranking EU Commission employees are affected. To Washington, where politicians see a security risk for US agents in Europe. Or to the Ukrainian front, where soldiers recognize their own positions in data records.
The investigation eventually leads to a dealer in Florida who sold the location data of German and French smartphone users. The film highlights the immense risks involved in this billion-pound business - even for people in the European Union, with its supposedly strict data protection rules.
Here, it's the cellphone network providers who sell our data.

For common folks there is no solution to sensitive data collection but governments saying and believing it is weird. Given that governments run on massive budgets of figures that the brains of the common folk cannot understand, they can do it. They can poach the greatest minds from their populations, pay them well, fund them and provide them with more than enough resources to develop their own military's technologies that are at least secure from other governments. The rest of us can remain at the mercy of big tech and we will probably be fine, probably, we probably will be...emphasis on probably.

DW is so biased. Their liberal woke and warmongering agenda is so outrageous. All their reports are biased showing one sided Ukranian propaganda. So sad to see a news source become a propaganda machine. The topic was Data Brokers not your sentimental Ukranian warmongering agenda.
@topsnicol5608is there any kind of cover we can use to block the signal of our cell phones?
@floridaoutdooradventures8981If our exposed data brings to an end the Globalist devils 😈 like Ursula V. L. & European 🇪🇺 EU clowns 🤡 it is a great 👍 thing indeed. 😊

@foustegars671The way we kid ourselves we live in ‘free’ democratic societies lol real ‘freedom’ has been outlawed. Imagine chucking your smartphone into the sea & trying to go about your day to day life without it. THATS how far we have strayed.
@tektakoAs an international audience, I’m surprised to see how a documentary can also be so racist. Even though it is coming from a German news agency, but they kept focusing on US and Europe only as if the rest of the world doesn’t matter still DATA from other countries, but not from Europe, and this is exactly the problem of the west and the world in general the same exact security issues exist for anyone outside Europe or America but in this documentary, I don’t see a single mention of that. It’s like the rest of the world doesn’t matter as long as Europe and America exist.
@Mfr12sGood work DW thanks alot...
@abdallasuge5210Thank you for doing this report

@LeanderandJoylynInventions are the result of the times or better yet the previous invention. Perceiving your life as an soldier, then it is hard to lose at said life perception. Cell phones, the RAZR fold model. These century technologies points to client " operators" satisfaction. As if the soldier of yesterday needed better operational apparatuses. To farewell, it is their turn, it is your turn. Good Luck, anything can happen. - Biology So it is only one type of person inventing? Well don't be-ray me ; ). One has to follow the previous, its not like I can invent a blue sky, it must be prelude. Forthcoming. So 98% can see it coming, can conceptualize. More or less. In the United States I would say the standards are higher to be considered a soldier rather than a body that takes up space. So the thousand years of data/information isn't translating into seamless transitional living in masses only people who fight for there country live this way. It took 20 years to view life as an soldier which has done wonders for my mentality. I'm 35.
@BluWav90That’s why the former White House used to use different cell phones but that company is gone .
@iashakezulaPoor AF..I have nothing interesting to be tracked or spy on 👣 🕵️♀️ 😂

@recluse313Hi DW, thank you. You always make good quality content. Watching from Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
@mdms2161Just last year Samsung was caught letting Israeli tech company installing backdoor hardware on their Android phones. Everyone badmouths about Chinese phones that they have malware installed in them, but Chinese phones from Huawei, Oppo, Xiaomi, Vivo, OnePlus, and others have been broken down and analyzed for malware and nothing has been found. All Chinese smartphone companies declined Israeli tech company to install malware. China knows very well that once you have malware, specially from Israel your thereabouts are shared with the USA government. Regardless what people say about Apple being safe from malware, as long as Apple uses the USA's GPS system you are tracked. Same when you purchase anything from Amazon, your info, location is sent from Amazon to the USA government, if Amazon wants to keep receiving government contracts they must comply with the USA's request for people's Data. It's the USA, Israel, Germany, the UK, S. Korea, and Japan who are the biggest harvesting of people's Data, location, and even spying of their conversations and texts. Again, it's the USAs GPS system that lets the USA government to track us, it is the biggest malware on our phones.

@ceelo6369This is a basic preset on all iPhones that can be found in location services on « settings ». It’s not just apps. Maybe people will see the risk the public all over the world are personally invaded and inconspicuously curated.
@RichardAbramAustiniiI have Motorola Chinese made but American smart phone. Sometimes automatically download a game app even I don't want to download.
@InnocentCat-vt4pfEvery crooked, dark and corrupt business, or Org comes from Florida.
@donnamaitlandw7460Satellites send signal to simcard or some chip in those devices which work similar function (static electricity), no matter you install the apps or not. And even you has no more battery on it if you are targeted they can see you. Only way to escape from tracking is to throw away your phone and live in forests which you are living out of the world system cabal system, no relia on money. Ask spy of UN how it work, probably CIA. And now a day the MK Ultra mind control read your though from phone, they don't need to hack to listen what you talk to your family anymire they can just read from your brain signal sending to the phone to their data center.
@SamoreSabaideeDid know-one tell the Ukrainians soldiers to turn off location and delete apps on their phones or does that not make any difference anyway? I suspect the only way is no phones on the frontline. Do the Russians not use phones as well and are targeted by the Ukrainians the same way?
@geeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzz👍
