Crunchy Pets: Raw Food Diet, Vaccines, Heartworm and MORE | Holistic Vet Dr. Karen Becker
Video Overview & Insights
Today, we’re exposing the SHOCKING truth about pet food, vaccines, and what’s really making your dog sick. 🧐🐾
Dr Becker please help in stopping the mandates for these vaccines. We need Veterinarians like you to stand up to the lawmakers so we can protect our pets. Especially those who have been injured from Vaccines.
I’m joined by the incredible Dr. Karen Becker—holistic vet and author of The Forever Dog Life—aka the book that changed EVERYTHING I thought I knew about pet health. We’re talking raw diets, sneaky toxins ☠️, and the secret to helping your pup live longer (spoiler: it’s NOT just luck).
If you love your dog, you NEED this episode 🐕🔥
I think the best thing is not to vaccinate your dog as it’s just too many and it’s a money maker for veterinarians. I recommend that everyone read the vaccine inserts for your pets and focus on the adverse effects of those vaccines. If you want to dig deeper, then study the scientific method of testing because vaccine science does not adhere to it. It’s a pseudo science.

One of the reasons dogs aren't living as long as they used to is the way we breed them. Before man, the healthiest and longest living spread more of their genes. Now, if we only breed a dog at the age of one or two and then spay, we could, in theory, get the dog's lifespan pared down to that of a common domesticated chicken.

I feed my dogs raw meaty bones. mostly chicken quarters. On occasionally, might get some organs. They aren't lacking in anything. My family and I eat only beef muscle meat, nothing else, and we are lacking in nothing.

US pets are mutilated by so called neutering. Their endocrine systems are destroyed forever and you expect them to be healthy. I call bullshit!

Dr Karen I've been following you and bought your book, my biggest issue is how you defend vets complaints that people aren't making balanced meals but I never hear you defend us and hold vets responsible for not teaching pet parents how to do more balanced

I had one more suggestion around the 25 minute mark, regarding budgets for food. Talk to neighbors, friends, and family too- Buying in bulk from a farm/ranch can sometimes make the difference in cost/savings.

My late-aunt always had 5 or 6 dogs. When one passed, she would get another. Pretty sure most of them lived into late teens-and into their 20's. The oldest was a German Wirehaired Pointer, 23-24 the last time I visited. Not sure how old she was when she passed. I recall she gave very little "extra" in the way of treats and what not. They probably got some game meat during hunting/fishing seasons, but for the most part she fed lamb and rice kibble. I'm pretty sure it was the Kirkland brand & occasionally whatever the Fred Meyers equivalent was back then. She DID warn of over-vaccination though...and that has been for as long as I can remember. I think I was probably still a teenager (49 now). Makes me wonder how much of the issues we are seeing today are diet vs environmental vs vaccination and other toxins, etc. And our pets getting some of our "treats" too on occasion?
My aunt was one of those people that had amazing mood swings. One minute she would love you and do fun things....and in an instant could be angry and screaming at something so insignificant to most that many just thought she was a B, and called it a day. However, she had an amazing thing with animals. My favorite photo of her sitting in a field with a fawn (still with lots of spots) eating from her hand, some of the tall grass that surrounded them.
Perhaps the coolest story was when my mom and I went to visit her & uncle (mom's brother). I was 13 give or take. We're sitting outside visiting when all of a sudden my aunt starts yelling "Tommy, come here!" but at kind of odd intervals. I asked my mom, "who's Tommy?" She gave me that look that said, "I guess you'll have to wait and see". I thought maybe there was a cousin I hadn't know about or a maybe a neighbor kid they were going to tease me with (was just starting to like boys). But I hear this thump, thumpity, thump come up from behind where we were sitting and it was the biggest horse I had ever seen in my life (and I LOVE horses). So I am thrilled excited, but also confused because we weren't fenced in and he wasn't fenced in, there was no one on him, near him or running after/for him, no halter, lead, or riding gear. My aunt had went inside but had just stepped back outside and says, "Oh there you are ol' boy!" She looks at me and says, "This is Tommy". I was still confused, but ecstatic to be petting this giant beautiful creature.
So the story goes...she was out just looking around the nature areas near their place when she had first seen him. He was by himself, no one else around. He wasn't fenced in anywhere or anything. Well, he quite took to her and followed/found her home. She'd talk to him, gave him snacks, and he'd just come and go as he pleased. She never fenced him in either. They were out in the COUNTRY, they had only two neighbors that were "may I borrow a cup of sugar" close, but for the most part not many people around. It came time that my aunt and uncle were going to move to a big property in Oregon. So, she took the appropriate steps to be able to legally & lawfully take Tommy with if he wanted to go. She said he loaded right up and off they went. I think he loved her, lol. He had places to roam there too they had a lot of acreage. And he would still always come when she'd call. They were pretty cute. He was magnificent. My aunt had gotten him some friends too during the years too - was a great place to visit.
Apologies for the rant of nostalgia...it just takes hold sometimes, lol.

These people are always talking about feeding your dog what historically wolves would’ve been eating. Do I have to tell you that rotting meat which makes up a large part of a scavenger diet which rules are scavengers would never pass for human consumption. This is an absurdity.

Noooo! She used the word “puppy cut”😱😱😱😱I’m cringing as a groomer. That’s one thing you never use when at your groomer or describing hair on a dog.😵💫

I’ve been trying to upgrade my cat food. I’ve been trying different canned cat foods. Foods like Wellness, Merrick, Weruva. They’re supposed to be good brands. I have even started giving my cats extra taurine because I read where most of the taurine is cooked out of the wet food when it’s processed. I’m also thinking of giving my cats some kind of probiotic too. The taurine I give them is called Kitty Supps. Hope that’s a good brand. 🤞🏻I think I have them Nulo too. They liked that. As long as it’s not “junk “ food I’ll feed it to them. 😉
@rascalandshadowsmith1277As far as taking your pets outdoors, I used to take my cats outside on a harness and leash, one at a time, and they liked it. That was a few years ago. But then just recently we got that bird flu virus and all the vets online said to leave your pets indoors. So my cats have been indoors ever since. I’ve been afraid to take them outside. 😧
@rascalandshadowsmith1277Great podcast! Love Dr. Karen! I have a 2 year old Shih Tzu who I have used flea and tick treatments with in the spring/summer. Not doing it anymore. Switching to natural remedies this year.
@AnthonyL1983💯 knowledge...thank you a wonderful dr beck
@izarivera6416Vet's are in a terrible position. If they tell people not to use vet association prescribed food, or medication they can be re-registered and lose their license to practice vet medicine. But we need to be aware of misunderstanding and agendas. Believing some guru and feeding dogs and cats a vegan diet is going to kill your pet.
Best thing, I think, is read up on scientific information and find out what your pet really needs, then try to feed them human grade food as much as you can afford.
Breaks my heart that I neutered my boy max. Hate that they encourage it even though I wondered why we should … or at least a vasectomy would have been better than removing the gland itself :(
@TheMadeleineFEarly spay and neuter, toxic pet food, and vaccines are all killing our dogs early.
@dgirl1Love Dr Becker DVM!
@dgirl1My chihuahua died from one single rabies shot at age 3…EVEN ONE SHOT IS TOO MUCH.
@teeniequeenie8369All3 of my dogs Rottweilers lrg terriers, fed a vegan diet, vet always commented on how good they looked& zero health issues.Longest living dog in Guinness book of records Vegan dog.
@ceolbeats7182What about adding R uff g reens powder on wholesome foods?? Good or bad ??
@johnjohnson2855A healthy human and/or canine doesn’t make big pharma trillions in monthly pills/treatments for their entire life span.
@johnjohnson2855What about these foods that aren’t formulated by a phd in nutrition? Small Batch being one of many. They use great ingredients, but they are not formulated by a nutritionist. I find that concerning, why shouldn’t I be leery of that?
@Savd_By_GraceSome companies use human grade meat, but can’t label it that by law because their facilities only prepare pet food and no human food. That’s unfortunate.
@Savd_By_GraceI will not feed raw meat simply because of the risk of Salmonella. I feed fresh dog food because it eliminates the risk of Salmonella. I only give a rabies vaccine when my landlord demands it. I don't give heartworm prevention because I use monthly flea/tick and live in a low heartworm state. I would give it if I lived in a high heartworm state. I also will always give flea/tick meds because the natural shit doesn't work.
