Cruise America RV Rental Tips for first-timers

Thanks Mike. We are picking up our Cruise America C30 next week (July 2026) and I just printed your packing list. There were some things that I had not thought of. Very useful!

One point that the local rental agent told me is that some campgrounds require you to have an elbow for the sewer dump (so not just drop the bare hose into the hole). I was surprised, but I ordered a Camco elbow from Amazon plus a bayonet connector for the Cruise America sewer hose. Costs $24 total and little bit of insurance in case we need it.

The exterior of these alone prohibits me from ever renting one. I have paid almost double to go with other companies that don't plaster crap all over on the outside lol.

30 seconds of listening to your voice I had to turn it off

I rented from Cruise America. The 30’ was a bit worn out but still decent and it worked fine. Total cost: $296/day (approximately).

We would like to do this inbetween two ocean cruises to move countries. So how many suitcases do you think you could store in this RV, including in the spaces you used above?

Make sure before you leave the lot you not only know how to turn thing's on, but that they also work!
I rented one in VA to drive to FL and did not bother to test the heater.
When I got to FL. the temp. dropped to below 32 Deg. and it started sleeting, and the heater did not work.
Also while driving the smell of sewer gas was so strong you had to drive with the windows down, and yes the tank was empty.
I called there 800 for roadside service and they pretty much told me there was nothing they could do about it.
I had to buy a portable heater, and some tank treatment.
I HATED the toilet layout!
It's raised up on a platform and by the time you finished pooping your legs fell asleep.
The second time I rented an RV I used RV Share instead.
Most often everything you need to cooking, eating, sleeping is included in the price, saving you a ton of money!

Wear gloves... you forgot the most important step... and maybe also bring clorox wipes because you don't know if the guy that rented it before you also didn't use gloves then drove off touching the steering wheel.

Hey Mike, this was really an awesome and informative video. Never really considered renting but this has pretty much made my mind up about doing it. We’ve traveled a lot with our pull behind but have sold truck and trailer for other adventures. We will definitely give this a try.

whats the insurance like for foreign tourists?

We are 9 people including 2 toddlers. Is there an option in cruise america to work this out. If not can someone please suggest another option of rental company for 9 people.

Hey Mike . I just watched your video and found it very helpful . We have booked a 30ft for next year and also we are first timers . My question is, we are 4 adults and a baby (3yo). When it comes to sleep .,is this RV size going to be enough and comfortable ? Thanks in advance for your answer ( or anyone's opinion about it ) 🙂
