Creepy Locations and Moments in Games Iceberg Explained (1)

Video Overview & Insights

Hello, friends, welcome to the start of a new iceberg series. Today we're going to look through some creepy locations and moments in video games. These can come from any game and appear when you least expect them to. If you have a moment that you think I should add to the iceberg, let me know if the comment section.

Here's something you can add.

Really great selection here, I appreciated the variety of game genres and time periods on display. I even learned about a few new ones I'd never heard of before. I hope the (1) in the title means there will be a (2)!

It's hilarious that the footage for Metroid prime shows the emulator the whole time.

Another thing that made the original doom 3 especially the og xbox version scary was if you played Co-op. You and your partner would have to deal with hallucinations exclusive to co-op and new enemy placement. In online co-op with a mic. You'd hear distorted voices and hear things the other player wouldn't hear. The voices would try to lure you in and throw you off. Fake players would lead you to secluded areas with monsters trying to jump you too. Fake flashlight beams making you second guess yourself. And also the flashlight wasn't attached to weapons like the new/bfg editions. It was a separate item that the players would have to hold independently and it was required to survive. The OG doom 3 was much darker. In co-op the optimal strat was one player use the flashlight and the other take point and gun.

intro - 00:00

The ocean house hotel had amazing design. The storytelling was phenominal, with the haunting adjusting as you learn more about what happened there (ie the dryers power on suddenly after you read about the head being found in it).

ACNH Ghost - 21:20

One I never see in these lists, for some reason, is the abandoned building in Ratchet & Clank: Nexus/Into the Nexus. It's been a moment for me so I can't remember what the building is now but I remember it has some broken animatronics along the front that always creeped me out, I also remember the overall ambiance and music being chilling. I especially remember it shocking me because the whole rest of the game's fairly standard for the franchise!

I’d like to throw another Fallout one into the mix if possible. Dunwich Borers in Fallout 4. Starts off as a raider infested quarry and ends as another location with eldritch horror and terrifying implications about the world. Fallout genuinely has some terrifying locations throughout all the games, especially in FNV.

No, NOT the Ocean House Hotel 😭 [proceeds to have ptsd flashbacks]

id like to share a couple creepy moments of my own, i believe one of these was covered in a tats video but i cant seem to find it or remember which one, but anyways

in the metro series of games, the horror mostly comes from the monsters and intense combat (if you play on ranger difficulty), but it does also have supernatural elements. while they dont come up often, there are 2 "ghost rooms" that are probably scarier than anything else in that series
in Metro Last Light, i believe its on the level Regina, if you hop off your motorized railcar you can actually explore some little nooks and crannies off the beaten path, one of which is a room full of metal tables, if you go through to the end of it and loot the body inside, you start to hear strange noises and see apparitions, if im not mistaken you also get a blurry or shaky screen, as if youre taking damage even tho you arent
Another one is in Metro Exodus in the Volga, where you can row a boat to a destroyed cabin on a tiny remote island in the middle of the lake and find that its full of dead body and nothing else, except for a collectable journal entry. grabbing it and staying in the room will cause the same spooky effects as before and when you read the journal, youll find out that the cabin belonged to a doctor who found it increasingly more difficult to save his patients - i find this one especially creepy because of the added context as well as the fact that supernatural horror took a backseat in that entry

another one id like to mention is a jumpscare from Stalker SoC, which made me shit my grown ass tax paying adult pants. during the main quest, you'll end up going to place called ahproprom and then into an underground sewer area below it, by the time you're done shooting army guys and collecting stashes down there, you encounter a controller, who will telepathically grab your camera and pull you into its jumpscare. Fuck that guy. apparently theyre powerless if you dont look at them? (at least, in that game, i believe). it also doesnt help that that game is kinda dark as shit and you cant see a whole lot in those tunnels

finally i wanna talk about a rather hidden gem, frogware's The Sinking City. I dont remember the name of the quest, but it involved going here and collecting that, and one of the locations was in the abandoned part of town in a basement. A bit of backstory first, one of the characters you meet in the story is a rather popular former singer called Joyce, who had her mouth sewn shut for talking too much. its a whole thing. anyways, in this basement you can find a bloody ritual knife and the walls are covered in posters of Joyce from her golden days as well as ones that say something to the effect of "silence is golden in oakmont" and a doll that has a suprising resemblance to Joyce as well, on top of that iirc the quest involved the innsmouthers and you can see a symbol on the wall thats only ever also seen at the blackwall manor, who is basically the local crime family. something about all that ALWAYS leaves me unsettled to my core, and is probably the creepiest thing on this list (despite being ultimately the most uneventful).

I didn't think anybody remembered that crazy quest in Dragon Age 2. When I saw that scene, I could feel Hawke's pain and loss. It was horrifying and yet I was angry too. I tend to forget that in history there were killers in Medieval Times. Thinking about it is still so strange to me.

Any chance you could bring back that little piano jingle that used to be between each entry? I loved it in all the other vids

I think we could probably sneak Big Boo's Haunt onto here, even though you've talked extensively about it before, it at least deserves a mention. Zero and Zero Two from Kirby also deserve a place on this iceberg.
35:20 On the topic of Slenderman making cameos in gaming, In Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare, he can be seen on the Zomboss Estate map, hidden behind the trees. In the Taco Party Pass update, it was changed to a Chomper eating him.

#iceberg #horrorgaming #horror

Not necessarily a scary one but it's pretty damn creepy, the hidden gachapon room in deltarune chapter 3, especially the moment when after the mention of losing your hand, you end up back in the gachapon room and not the hidden room, the capsule machine is no longer there.

other scenes and moments I could mention for you are, any bad endings in Persona (But mainly Persona 4, since each bad ending involves the mention of someone dying (And in the worst one, one of your teammates is presumably killed during their phone call with you, as you hear their terrified screams) )

The true lab in Undertale is another one to mention, it is during the pacifist route (which is considered the best route in the game), this is where you find the melted and fused reanimated corpses of monsters, otherwise known as the amalgamates, it's honestly a pretty creepy moment for players on their first run of the game.

The shesha jumpscare image in SMT IV Apocalypse was another one I had to mention, it just feels... so out of place in the game... especially with how realistic the image looks, seriously I don't know if ATLUS were taking inspiration from creepypastas or not but if they were then they did a damn good job at it.

Black space from OMORI is one of the last ones I'll mention for now, this is late in the game and absolutely is pure nightmare fuel.

Not many people mention this but I always enjoyed how Giygas’s impossible scale and power was represented by him being a whole ass background. Every other enemy, regular sprite in front of trippy background. Giygas consumes your entire vision, there is nothing but giygas.
Also it’s easy to get used to him if you’ve seen him enough times, you really forget just how surreal and insane this design is, why tf does this alien look like a human soul being tortured in hell?
Really fantastic honestly.

While not exactly scary the Keyblade graveyard was interesting, like when you know what you see was a war Keyblade wielders fought out the surrounding just becomes intense seeing all the insane damage that has been done to the land, terraforming just by a battle and when you reach the final area you see all the Keyblades thousands if not more all basically marking a grave

For Part 2 I’m hoping Pandora from Persona 1, GameBoy Camera’s Who Are You Running From?, No More Heroes 2 Matt Helms, Ikana Valley from Zelda Majora’s Mask, the Fetus of God from Darkstalkers 3, The Sorrow’s boss fight in Metal Gear Solid 3, and the Distortion World from Pokemon Platinum would be added.

Drakengard alone can probably fill a whole video like this when it comes to creepy or disturbing locations, even more so if you mention the original Japanese version since the western version has quite a bit of censored storytelling.

If I may suggest something, I suggest the bad ending to Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, Every time I play that game I actively try avoid getting that ending as much as I can. unlike the other bad endings in oddworld, I feel like Munch's Oddysee ending is the most brutal out of all of them
