Someone might have said this before but: With the credit card fees (at least here in the US, maybe it's different in Canada) you can get a credit card that doesn't charge foreign exchange fees. For those who travel, I highly recommend using those then you don't need to think about exchange fees.

My travel agent saved me $583 off a RCL direct Black Friday deal Mediterranean cruise. That beat my Costco price.

Just FYI Cay (as well a quay) are pronounce Key, not Kay. If you use a really good travel agent, they will monitor everything right to the day you leave and if the price drops, as it often does, they rebook for you. They have saved or salvaged so many cruises and other vacations for us over the years because of their constant monitoring we would never consider trying to do it on our own - totally impossible to duplicate. The cruise lines are only too happy to have book on your own as they don't have to pay commission.

For that small of a difference in cost, I would do RCL and get my flight through RCL as well. That way if the flight changes or is canceled, RCL will make sure you get a new flight.

Most states do not require any type of training to become a travel agent. But you do need to sign up with cruise lines as a company to take their training. My wife and I did this and have taken all of the different cruise line training courses of travel agencies. We did because the base commission for most cruise lines is 16%. You can book cruises for your friends and relatives (Do not use the internet to advertise your agency. There are several states that try to ruin your life) just use word of mouth. You can also get discounts on cruises as a travel agent. So you might think Costco is giving you a great deal when all they are doing is giving you 2 or 3 percent of the 16 percent they are getting for booking your cruise.

Great video. In addition to the shop card, you will get 2% for being a Costco executive member and another 3% for using the Costco visa. Costco also makes it easy to reprice your cruise to save money if the price goes down before making your final payment. So in total you get $380 + $325 off of your $6500 cruise (Canadian).

I have used indirect bookings on hotel, and airlines before and to me, it's not convenient and the saving is not big difference. When time comes to postpone or cancellations, it's a troublesome. I have booked direct all the time now for over 5 years and will continue to do so.

With teens we always preferred Pull man beds so they did not have to share the sofa. Also higher Crown and Anchor levels get a discount when you book direct which can be good deals.

where do you buy your travel or trip cancellation insurance?

I just want to share my Legend booking experience. I paid $3,800 for a Surfside balcony room for an October sailing out of Rome, could have paid $3,500 if sailed out of Barcelona(This is an interport sailing with two homeports), but I stuck with Rome because I was going to board it in the middle of my Italian trip then continue the trip until the return sail back to the US on Odyssey. OBC was $350, better than what Costco would have given me, plus retains the right to bid up which I did. So Costco is the lazy way to book a cruise. The key to lower price is booking early, not whom you book with. Yes, I did compare Costco but Costco would only offer me shitty cabins since I was a solo cruiser which I found to be bizarre.

You can do better with other travel agencies than Costco. Furthermore, you can't do RoyalUp bidding if you book from Costco. I have Costco membershp but never booked from Costco because other travel agencies offer more.
