Costco Free Samples — What They're NOT Telling You

As a sampler, yes the customers do absolutely buy the products they sample. We are all given something called a "DPIS" it's just a sheet of paper with all of the relevant information about the product on it, but every DPIS has a sales qouta attached, and we get chewed out for not meeting that qouta. Products like candies and cookies also sell like hotcakes. Also don't feel bad for not buying the product, we aren't payed on commission and sometimes we often understand ourselves why you won't buy.

What is the big surprise here? It is a way to market a product. You get to taste the product and now know what it taste like. My wife and I have bought some of Costco's frozen foods only to find that we did not like them. I wish I could have tasted them first.

The big samples in the middle is a road show it travels from Costco they usually have multiple sample people working at once with 2 to 3 different options of samples maybe from the same company

Yes we do care how many you take! When others are waiting and you dump the entire tray in your purse, yes it bothers us and yes it happens often. Not only is it rude, it makes us have to work more, but to be fair its not that hard. CDS pays $.50 cents over minimum wage in Canada, and guess what...we absolutely get bonuses! when we hit our target goals (2.5 times more sold than previous weeks sale, when we did not run demo), we get 250 points. Every 2500 points is a 50.00 bonus. We also get BENEFITS, health and dental. If you work for 6 months (in canada) and average 18 hours per week, benefits are offered at very low cost of 10 bucks dental and 20 medical, per bi-weekly pay. Flexible work hours for samplers as well. Just a couple things to remember when getting your sample...Don't stick your face in entire tray 1 inch away and yell "WHAT IS THIS", read the sign or ask from a foot back, don't hold your tiny dog in your arms eating over the other samples and feeding it to your dog over other samples, and don't grab a sample than put it back on the tray, you touch it , you take it, lastly if you do not like the sample, move along , do not yell out loud that it taste like crap and turn off others.

I NEVER sample anything at Costco. Too many people want anything free when they shop. Watching people man-handle the free samples turns me off. I don't want people touching the food I eat. Some people just come in to eat.

I used to work for CDS and 6 months later I quit.
Fri, Sat and Sun are crazy, customers come in like a big wave, it’s exhausting and overwhelming to give away 600~1,000 samples in 5.5 hours, I was making around $12/hour, it’s not worth it, Ugh!!

They are not giving samples anymore and it’s super expensive.. 3 ground beef 50 dollars hahahagaga

Love samples it allows me the opportunity to know that I'm buying something I like instead of guessing.
We used to go into Sees candy just for the sample and every now and then purchase some chocolates because of the sample. Samples and win win situation for both sides.

I just unsubscribed immediately upon watching this clip due to the following reasons, namely your numbers were blown up, inaccurate. (Did you survey all Costco locations, or just a very few to obtain the info.) Don't treat your viewers as idiots. Also, did you try to encourage viewers to take advantage of free samples? We all know the purpose of free samples. I would not buy something that was unknown to me, because I don't want to return food, as it's morally wrong. Have you ever thought that another reason for manufacturers offer free samples is to reduce the returns? You only feel guilty if your intention is to take advantage of free samples. You don't want to buy the samples you like because you're cheap and your motto is I simply like to take free stuffs.

It would be so nice if Costco actually offered healthy foods , diet versions . I always say to myself as I am leaving Costco and out loud “ oh the humanity “ because the shoppers always strike me as entitled and rude and just dumb for the most part , mainly the ass wipes that always just stop right in the middle of the busiest aisle’s with NO clue what is happening around them . I really like the public but just not in Costco though.

The woman working the chicken wings station sample at my local Costco in Springfield, Virginia was downright hostile to us. People were gathering waiting for her to heat up the bbq chicken wings. She told us 3 minutes. After 3 minutes, we went back and she got annoyed and almost yelled at us saying 15 minutes. When we reminded her what she said to us earlier, she then apologized. I don't think she should work there anymore as obviously, she's burned out with her job.

who pays for the carts? and the electricity and water to clean them? I am guessing Costco- plus they have to store them when not in use. But that is still crazy money for Costco.

At the store I go to the stuff they are pushing is usually nowhere to be seen. Only the samples are there.
