Thanks for the comparisons, however there are other factors that need to be taken into consideration, like climate. Some of us can't take the heat so maybe none of those place would be appropriate. Secondly there is the language barrier. If you don't speak Greek and the locals don't speak English, then life is going to be pretty difficult. Also, if you want to live somewhere that is not on the coast with a resort like lifestyle, one could probably find cheaper costs of living in all those countries.

With the cost of medical care being so affordable, the once a year, or whatever the time frame is for renewing your visa, the $72 still might be worth it given the amount of money you will not be spending on medical care per visit, especially if you have a lot of issues.

To be fair, the only surprise is Greece coming out on top of Cyprus. The rest was exactly what one would expect.

1 / Paris Montpellier on a Ouigo is about 20€, if well planned.
2 / Montpellier is irrelevant in terms of rent. It is known as a student city, here in France. Housing is highly complicated and difficult. That's not a typical midsize city.
3 / Because it's a student city, with probably as many international students as paris schools, there are obviously more English speakers in both civil life and healthcare system. Thus not the typical city.
And there are many issues on that choice as groceries as the prices take into account a larger consumer base witch drive the cost a bit down.
Gas prices, including VAT, in France, is nt 0.68€/l, but more 68-75% of taxes. And I think it's the same for the Other EU countries. Besides, you also have to take into account the costs of owning a car that are different from country to country. For the same consumption, a car will cost you more in Belgium or the Netherlands than in France, while the gasoline is cheaper.
Your rent cost are also messed up as you should compare them with similar size. Which can add to the difference, I agree, but more relevant for those who actually plan to move.

For US and UK retiree's there are US and UK consulates in Marseille (reasonable drive or transit). There is also a Canadian consulate in Lyon. So, for many in your audience, the added cost getting from Montpellier to Paris for consular services is not an issue (as noted in your video).

Great information. I and perhaps others will buy the property have housing stability and reduce long term costs. So comparing property prices, lets say a 2-bed apartment would be of value.
So here, I just compared the real costs of living in all five countries using data that actually matters to expats.
Plus the prices that I saw there with my own eyes – except for France, I travel to these countries multiple times per year.
With a shitty exchange rate I wouldn’t go to any of these.
The results will shock you.

I like you include cost of going to embassy. I’ve been to Chania (and several other places in Greece ), Salerno, France, Spain, not Cyprus though. I’m in love with Greece though enjoyed other places. Other considerations … are you ready to live on an island year round? Not everyone is. The people and culture, you may prefer some and others less so.

@WorldExplorationTVReally enjoyed the video as I do all of yours. It would've been nice to have grocery prices instead of dining out, and some interesting factors not mentioned are as far as I understand there is nowhere in Greece where you can flush your toilet paper and Cadiz tends to actually flood throughout the city, so those are two big items for some of us. Plus, if you're from the US , the tax treaty with France is better than anything else (saves you money), and any special tax treatment you get in Italy, and I believe Greece as well, is based on having a public pension which very few Americans have, and being that this is all in English I'm assuming the target audience are North Americans and Brits. Thanks!

The smaller it is, typically, the less costly it is.
I think there are better locations in Italy to use for low cost of living....

Priorities: costs of living, nearby practical amenities (schools, shopping, medical), quality of the medical care, area safety, the nature of the citizens in the area, interesting things to do, and the transportation system.

@JeffMar1As someone who has lived in three very HOT U.S. states (South Carolina, Florida and Texas) the only choice of these five locations would be France. My relatives are from Greece and live in Athens and a Greek Island and its almost as hot there as it is in Austin, TX where I live. Cadiz Spain, Cyprus, Greece and Southern Italy are all very hot.

@schowtymeThe rating system applied here seems rather odd. Capital travel was considered a major factor because you will occasionally need to visit your embassy? That outweighs food costs? Utilities costs? Really? This would normally fall into the miscellaneous/rare expenses category. Dining out seems a rather bad choice, too, given that residents will mostly cook and eat at home. So market food prices should outweigh dining out. Fuel prices can be a consideration, but the cities you chose are generally walkable and/or have public transport. The only categories I really agree with in your comparison are health care (particularly important for, say, retirees) and housing. Overall, I like your videos, but I think that you missed the mark on this one. ❤
