Coin Guy compares Coin Grading Companies grade coins.

Video Overview & Insights

Coin Guy has a tray of Certified Morgans in front of him from 7 different grading companies, and goes through and sees if he agrees with the grades on the slabs.

When you send in a coin that has previously been graded, do you send it in a coin flip
or in the original holder? How about replacing a coin if only the holder has been damaged?

Way too many people forget any coin can be cracked out and resubmitted, even to the same company, it can get a different grade. The number on the label is not the coin, there is no universal standard of verifiable measurements used to grade coins. This is why grades change and why, since no company will accept such standards, any of the main companies is verifiably "better" than any other. When no one is using a standardized ruler, then no one is getting legitimately verifiable measurements. The membership fees charged by PCGS and NGC psychologically create a member loyalty creating a situation where customers have an aversion towards critical analysis. An MS68m 69, 70 only go for different money b/c of the label ink...not the coin. The companies have people after their product added to the coin rather than the coin. But if they chose verifiable grading, they would never be paid more than once to grade the same coin. So they continue to give an inferior product so they profit. That is the business world.

Just my personal opinion as I am a collector and not a dealer. The smelters have dealers and the public over a barrel. Business is not done this way. If I trade a car and get 15,000 dollars for my trade, it is settled that day. The dealer doesn't say, :well , we will get around to selling your trade in in about two weeks and we will pay you for your trade based on the price at that time." I buy and sell stocks in my personal portfolio. Brokers settle at the time of buy and sell and confirm the sale in 24 hours. What other business does this unless it is written in a legal contract?

Thanks for the education. I inherited some graded coins from my Dad he got them from a total not legit company, but at least they are genuine.

Great Morgans Coin Guy. My MS65 CC's are the Queens of my collection. I have a 1885 CC. I'm thinking of getting out of bullion and back to Morgans and collecting with all this silver going bananas. I only started stacking due to my age and wish to leave a legacy investment for my family. All things being equal I'd love to stick with numismatics even if I didn't make a dime off them. I just love the coins. Your Morgans are lovely and got my juices flowing.

This has been an excellent video and proof that grading is subjective. I absolutely love Morgan dollars.

Love the videos, maybe invest in overhead camera setup so we can see and hear the comparisons while you guys talk. Hard to see with glare and shaking around.

Great Video. I just can't believe the price fluctuations, it's Historical. I wonder if it's have to do with a significant change in our/world's financial System Reset 😮🤔🤔🤔🙂

if you own silver dont sell now silvers way underpriced because its used in industrial products, solar panels and the list goes on. the govt. is basically counterfitting dollars. printed dollars have no backing with any precious metals today

Grading coins is like guys rating women. No two scores the same. It's a sham. Let computers do it. I bet the computer rating won't whine about something as dumb as coin cleaning.

Coin grading has always been subjective, even before ANACS, NGC, and PCGS began, and it remains so today; that’s why both slabbed and raw coins sell for wildly varying prices at auctions and shows. The buyer with keen grading knowledge usually wins !

I've seen some garbage pcgs grades.

Anacs is actually one of my favorite grading companies. They got my liberty heads right. They did wonderful on my gold pieces. All the grading companies have flaws.

I'm really considering dumping all my silver for gold. I was lucky enough to dump 200 oz at 100$. Silver is just to unpredictable imo. The manipulation is disgusting. So sick of the paper bullshit Market.

The refiners in Ashland Kentucky are taking Sterling and 999 silver as much as you take them, and there's 3 different refiners there 👍

@albertdean2322

I'm seeing more dealers that cannot keep in stock the premium silver (ASE, Maples, etc...). Despite the dip in price of silver lately I still think there is high demand and eventually the markets will correct. I'm a long term stacker so it makes no difference to me.

Thanks guys! What a riot. I have that SAME photographic-grading book! LOL!!! Feel bad for folks ripped off by NAC or any of many bogus grading companies! Only PCGS or NGC for me. My numismatic career began grading Morgans! Addicted for 60 yrs. GO AG!

The BIG RED BOOK is a great source for examples of grading coins. They have great photos and descriptions. I've learned a lot from that book.
