FILM DESCRIPTION:
This talking-animal action comedy from Lawrence Guterman, the co-director of Antz (1998), follows on the heels of the Babe and Dr. Dolittle films. Unknown to humans, a secret war has been raging between cats and dogs for eons, but a fragile truce has long held the order of the animal kingdom in place. Now the balance of power has tipped, as a researcher, Professor Brody (Jeff Goldblum), is about to invent a vaccine that will erase all human allergies to dogs. This is too much for the autocratic Mr. Tinkles (Sean Hayes), a white Persian kitty bent on world domination. The Brody home becomes ground zero for the renewed conflict between feline and canine, with a young Beagle puppy named Lou (Tobey Maguire) caught in the middle as the new point man for his species' cause. Cats and Dogs co-stars Elizabeth Perkins and Alexander Pollock, as well as the vocal talents of Susan Sarandon, Alec Baldwin, Jon Lovitz, Michael Clarke Duncan, and Joe Pantoliano.

He muttered and mumbled to himself, pushing buttons and pulling tiny levers and switches, and by the time Butch realized what the device was, it was too late. Sneaking up hadn't quite worked; it had given the Russian Blue plenty of time to finish installing the gargantuan thing.
Click! Beeep! Beep!
"It's a bomb!" Lou yelped suddenly, his tail between his legs.
"KID!" Butch shrieked, spinning around, all four legs scrambling. "What are you----"
59!
58!
"NrrrrRRRRGGGHHH!!!" the cat snarled, whipping around and pulling something quickly out of its pack. "Dogs! Take THIS!"
He threw a long, slender object directly at Butch's face----some kind of large needle, like a miniature harpoon. Startled, Lou leaped up and slapped it down out of the air. But the moment of relief was short lived as the cat instantly threw something else at them, and Lou realized the needle had just been a decoy.
A large silver ball fell to the ground, covered in little bumps, bouncing in front of them and rocking a bit before stopping.
"Hey!" Peek chirped.
"That's a----" Sam bellowed, but he was interrupted.
"Lou! Come on, run!" Butch shrieked, turning tail. Lou didn't know what the metal ball was, but he didn't need to be told twice. Together they both bolted across the living room, heading for the couch.
"Behind it!" Butch panted, and they both jumped----
----just as the ball exploded.
Fwing! Fwing! FWIIING!
Giant needles were sailing through the air after them!
Lou was filled with panic, hearing the rough tearing sounds of the furniture behind them ripping up as needles struck the wooden coffee table, the glass cabinet, the curtains----
The couch!
They both landed on the back of the couch, scrambling up, and Lou both heard Butch grunt in pain and felt a sear of agony through his left hind leg.
They scrambled over the couch and fell in a rough heap to the floor.
"Guys!" Peek cried.
"You've only got----" Sam started, but there was no need.
Beep!Beep!!
51!
50!
Butch stood up shakily, and a drop of blood fell from his right ear; luckily he'd just been grazed, and the same with Lou's leg. A bit of disinfectant and a bandage would fix them both right up, but there wasn't any time for such things at the moment.
A deep voice began laughing from the other side of the living room. "So! I hear there's a new dog in town, but I find two to play with! Why not come out from behind there, and try your luck against Andrei Atomitov?"
Butch and Lou both winced at each other. With a name like that, it sounded like they were dealing with a trained assassin from the movies----which probably wasn't too far off.
SHANG! Another needle bashed the couch. They could hear Atomitov's paws thudding down against the floor as he came closer and closer. The cat was walking on his hind legs, front paws outstretched and ready; no fooling around from this one!
"Lou," Butch whispered. "I'm gonna make a break for the bomb. Distract him right before I go out! Can you walk okay?"
Lou put some weight on his leg and felt no burst of pain; evidently no muscle or bone had been hurt. "I'm good," he whispered. "Whenever you're ready!"
39!
38!
"That'd be now!" Butch whispered back frantically. "But don't get too close to him, stick to the back edge of the roo----"
"AAAAAAIIIIIIIIII!" Lou came bursting out from behind the couch on the left side, and turned sideways, skidding across the floor, his side bashing into the end table by the rocking chair. With a clattering and clunking as the stack of books and the bowl of potpourri came crashing down, Atomitov turned on him with a grimace.
"Not good enough, you!" he growled, and jumped, startled, as the whole table smashed to the floor, skidding toward him. He almost immediately turned to face Butch, who had come running out of the other side. Slipping and sliding, Butch found he didn't have much traction on the waxed floor either; at least there had been a rug for them to run across in the middle, or they both would have been killed by the harpoon bomb.
Atomitov reached up into his pack with both paws cartwheeling quickly over and over. Like a machine gun firing bayonets, he began rapidly throwing miniature blades in Butch's direction. Butch gasped and ducked and dodged, just barely able to avoid them.
Lou leaped at Atomitov, but the cat had anticipated it, and simply stepped aside. He kicked Lou sideways just as he landed where the cat had been standing half a second ago, and Lou rolled painfully across the floor.
Atomitov was tramping after Butch, having run out of throwing knives, now holding a large metal hooked object like a boomerang in his paw. He reared back and threw it----
But he threw it in front of Butch, not right at him, and way too low. Butch was momentarily startled, until both he and Lou saw the target: the front right leg of the glass cabinet!
With a loud CRACK, the leg popped off, and the cabinet began to tip forward. Atomitov raised a large cyindrical gun with a big hole in the center----WHERE was he getting all this STUFF?!----and launched a weighted net at Butch.
But his aim faltered as Lou slammed into him sideways, and Butch jumped over the lopsided rope. Right behind him, with a deafening bang, the glass cabinet smashed into the floor and shattered, sending shards of glass spinning everywhere.
Butch was almost to the edge of the living room.

"Keep 'im busy, kid!" Butch raced after the bomb.
"Butch! I recognize the model!" Sam called. "It's the Atomic Baronetta 2000! Pull the red wire, and it freezes!"
"Which one?!" Butch cried, stopping in front of the bomb. "They look like dark yellow and brown! I can't tell which one's red! I don't have my goggles on me!"
"The darkest one, on the right!" Peek called.
