TLDR of answer: confirm that everyone else knows what they don’t know everyone else knows

— @GrookeyPeacemaker

One hundred green-eyed logicians have been imprisoned on an island by a mad dictator. Their only hope for freedom lies in the answer to one famously difficult logic puzzle. Can you solve it? Alex Gendler walks us through this green-eyed riddle.

This is smart

Part of the condition is that there can be no new information, and yet she tells them that at least one of them has green eyes... which is new information! VERY flawed logic problem!

Bro I would say learn sign language or write something

"Everybody pair up into groups of two. Dont pair with anyone who doesnt have green eyes."

@lambda2143

To work out,you need all of them to be logical people

@rojimonpallivathuckal5992
@

i'm still confused why do you have to wait for 100 days? if everyone stays for the next day and everyone can see everyone during the head count then you could already deduce you have green eyes and leave on day 3

"The person with green eyes says what"

I looked at this video for like an hour and I figured out a way I can understand it better with my 2 brain cells:
1 person - One person is green, you are one person, you leave the first night
2 people - If the other person didn’t see green, they would have left the first night, so you both leave the second night.
3 people - If they saw 0, they would have left the first night because the one would’ve been them, if they saw 1, they would’ve left the second night because the other 1 would’ve left if they saw 0 people and the other person would have to be you if the other person didn’t have green eyes, so you all leave the third night.
PROCESS OF ELIMINATION!
I hope this makes sense!

What if we say ' none of you have red eyes ?

I would say "Green".
It answers to the only question on the island, but who can say it's an information?

@paoloscighera
@

“Can you solve this logic puzzle?” Nope, but il watch it anyway.

@Lil_Mimikyu
@

wouldn't it be better to say the people to your left and right have green eyes? that's not new information

@hussainjamali2597
@

cant you just say "stare at someone with green eyes"? then the prisoner knows that if someone randomly stares at them reeeally long then theyre good to go.

i have a doubt cant the prisoners deduct themselves that everybody else would see atleast 98 green eyes people?

@sangeetakaushik7906
@

That seems like a lot of work. If everyone already sees that everyone they see has green eyes then you can just say, "Everyone you've seen has green eyes." It takes 2 seconds to realize that applies to everyone. If you've seen them, they've seen you, and therefore no new information is given, yet you can deduce that you have green eyes.

Where was the "stop now if you want to solve it yourself"?!

What if the people on the island aren't that smart?

@chrisanon2560

I would say “look at everyone else and assume.”

@jacksongriswold5124

She could have said 'At least 99 of you have green eyes'. They could all have left the very next day.

Ohhhh an inverse logic puzzle, I got it in nano seconds.

But of what use is my intellect, I live among barbarians full of prejudice, stubbornness, closed mindedness and hate.

@AffanAflar

I would say "everyone next to you has green eyes."

This general statement would mean everyone near you has green eyes, but also that you as part as everyone else are green eyed as well. If you had blue eyes someone next to you would NOT have ALL green eyed people next to them, causing a contradiction.

This also doesn't give anyone new information because each person already knows the eye color of everyone around them.

@Superalex2134

Each of them knows that other people also know that there are at least 98 people. So there is no need for that saviour

If this happens, I'm just gonna stop imagining

Why not just “everyone you see have green eyes” no new information because everyone else they see has green eyes but it means that you also have Greene eyes

@playplay7919
@

The legend begins

@Wsx-q5p
@

I would say, "the person beside each one of you has green eyes" it's not new information and it concludes that since everyone is beside a person then they must all have green eyes.

@howlite6220

Ah yes, the eyeland

@ventousemoustachue

Wait. Couldn't you have just said,
"All of you have green eyes."
Since no one knows their eue color.

The moral of this story is that if you are ever in a situation like this just take the risk. Worse case scenario you die, and that is far better than living in this situation. The chances that some girl is going to come along someday, and that she will come up with the right thing to say are almost non-existent. Since the people that were on the island are already perfect logicians they would have figured this out anyway, so the island was actually already empty except for the dictator when she got there.

@growupwithkrischannelmadness

A simpler version I thought of is that you can just say "Everyone you see has green eyes." This would let everyone leave after 2 days

@limeallure
@

The answer works if there are 2 people, but not when there are 3+
Even if no one leaves the first night, you know both the others have green eyes, and that they can see each other. It would cause a stalemate, since it doesn't mean that you are the one with green eyes.
Also she could only make one statement, which means no repeats, so even if someone left one night, the others could conclude that that person was the one with green eyes. If no one left, everyone can see 100 green eyes which would disqualify themselves from risking it.

The reason why 'At least one of you has green eyes' works, isn't because its literal, but its implying that a minority is green. Since everyone sees 100 green eyes, then if at least one of them is green, then there is no other colour, since you would have been that other colour.

@sweetpotato469

Not bad

@SolveorSuffer
@

I would just say : “everyone of you see 99 people with green eyes” I don’t add another information because they already seeing 99 people with green eyes, but in this way everyone can be sure that everyone has green eyes. Is my reasoning correct?

@Project_with_Mattia-official

i kind of understand it but at the same time don't

When they were already seeing each other (while not communicating) and knew the rule of asking the prisoner guard. Why were they waiting for someone to tell them the obvious thing 🧐

@abhishek21011

I would make other think they don't have green eyes so I could rule over them.

What if u said 99 of you have green eyes. Judy came up with it.

Or they could just make facial expressions to show that they have green eyes. Like raising there eyebrows when looking into there eyes.

Can anyone suggest me a book of such puzzles and riddles?

@sanjuktasarkarkol

Why not tell at least 99 of you have green eyes, that's no new info as everybody saw 99 people in front already and with this everyone could have gone free on 2nd day only😂
