CAN - Paperhouse (1971)
Video Overview & Insights
Can was a German experimental rock band formed in Cologne in 1968 by the core quartet of Holger Czukay (bass, tape editing), Irmin Schmidt (keyboards), Michael Karoli (guitar), and Jaki Liebezeit (drums). The group cycled through several vocalists, most prominently the American-born Malcolm Mooney (1968–70) and the Japanese-born Damo Suzuki (1970–73), as well as various temporary members.
first pass - better than journey 1st show capital center opening for many others. Nice equipment and vocals. Sorry to be so late--rock fairy supreme--just say'n !'26
Coming from backgrounds in the avant-garde and jazz, the members of Can blended elements of psychedelic rock, funk, and noise on influential albums such as Tago Mago (1971), Ege Bamyasi (1972) and Future Days (1973). Can also had occasional commercial success, with singles such as "Spoon" and "I Want More" reaching national singles charts. They have been widely hailed as pioneers of the German krautrock scene, and a considerable influence on subsequent rock, post-punk, ambient, and electronic music.
Das nenne ich mal eine Anmoderation.

That guitar player taught Corey Feldman everything he knows.
@blair00725It easy to see why my dad didn't care for groups like the stone roses when you hear stuff like this from 20 years prior
@LtastySee the light shining on the rain, much go on. How'd it go? Think anything. Make you feel so down. You can make everything what you want with your head. You are here and everywhere, everywhere with your mind.
Sometimes in my life it's too hard to live, too many silent songs reach out for the sound, for any, everything real in your mind. For flying paperhouse, reach out through the sound.
❤
@gabo.herrerasCan is music you get high just by listening to it
@deviantmonkey1‘Can’ you not?
@vanguardblueIt's unfortunate that Jaki was the only one I'd be interested in seeing shirtless, yet...
@Ohfishyfishyfishthey was something special and very talented.
@steffensrensen4434whoaaaa

Great band, fantastic drummer,good singer, but only mediocore guitar player.

Yeah!
@mykola_iegorovAlright!
@LouieG-y2tNot sure if Sonic Youth ever heard this band, but it sounds like they did. What a vibe.
@MayorofCheeselandIt's hard to imagine that a band like Can could appear on TV. Now even mainstream rock bands are virtually banned from the media, at least in Europe.

@EstuardoOrbegosoThe only band i would actively go to see live.
@HumanBill67You can clearly hear the influence they had on Pere Ubu, Hawkwind, Portishead, Primal Scream, Happy Mondays, Joy Division, John Frusciante, Thee Oh Sees, Tortoise, Stereolab, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Eirstunzende Neubauten, The Fall, LCD Soundsystem, Loop, Sonic Youth, Spoon, Mooney Suzuki, Radiohead, Brian Eno, Bauhaus, Coil, Talk Talk...
@omegajrz1269hell yeah!!!
@meiosysHad no idea they went back to the 70s

@RKC-dive-into-yesterday"These go to 11"
@Jonhobbs64I love the way Jaki looks in the camera at the end, if like he’s had an 12 hour shift at a coal mine.
@TheHungarianGuitarShowDammo ❤
@ShaunaLovesBassCan should have been the Super Bowl halftime show instead of Bad Bunny
@Johndoe22120Early 1970's music was really onto something
@RowanBarchamReally? Wow! After reading some of the comments, I'm before being shipped the folks have tin ears, bad taste and not a musical note in their fiber. I on the other hand was able to quickly and decisively discern that complete failure of a half assed attempt to create music. A train wreck has more rhythm to it and the washed out pale uglies on bass and guitar are both jonesin for a fix, and both completely and absolutely 100 percent, money in the bank......SUCK SHIT SMOOTHIES STRAIGHT FROM THE ASS! Concerning the Vietnamese refugee lady on the mic. We can only imagine the horrors she had to witness before being shipped to this land if retai savages. 12 thumbs down, gentlemen, you've been canned, and you havent ear ned unemployment
@adrianwalton6117Man, I sure regret opening up that can..😂
@adrianwalton6117I"m stealing the caution tape drum decal idea that's dope as fuck
@AMERICANHOLEWIZARDThe opening use of cymbals makes me happy
@AMERICANHOLEWIZARDeinmal CAN, immer CAN
@Hermod1995I remember around this time being as a teen at a live performance in the Weisshaus Theater in Cologne. Funny enough, I live now like the last members of the band in southern France.
@gunterhagendorf8318I love how wonderfully lost in their music they are, only Holger seems to realize where they are, but definitely not the whole time :)
@ijonusI'm sitting on a nice bench surrounded by trees. Taking a break walking home. I saved it for later on. When the traffic goes by I can't hear it. I can hear Alice Cooper's Billion Dollar Babies 🎉🎉🎉🎉
