"Can Opener" Bridges Compilation (without the 11foot8 bridge)
Video Overview & Insights
PLAYLIST WITH (some of) THE ORIGINAL VIDEOS IS IN THE DESC.
A compilation of "can opener" bridges (bridges that are often struck by trucks), without including the 11foot8 bridge.
Each bridge has at least 3 crashes recorded at the location, and at least 1 crash that significantly damaged a truck.
Haha
NOTES:
- Almost all the videos have no sound.
ππππππππππok
- The last two bridges are 2 separate bridges on the same road.
0:00 Young St. Bridge || Tonawanda, NY

1:28 Onondaga Lake Parkway Bridge || Salina, NY
2:43 Oxley Rd. Bridge || Corinda, QLD
Imagine you bought a new car and it gets totalled running into a bridge on the truck delivering it to your dealership. Or you were on your way to a job interview and the side of a box truck going the other way falls on the bonnet of your car.
I really feel like the driving test for trucks needs to include some basic arithmetic. "Your truck is x tall. The clearance under the bridge is y. Can you fit?"
3:40 Fools Bridge || St. Petersburg, RUS
5:13 Independence Ave. Bridge || Kansas City, MO
Didn't know that there were that many can opener bridges around the nation
5:56 N Washington St. Bridge || Tiffin, OH
6:34 East St. Bridge || Westwood, MA
Monday June 1st, Louisville shut down 65 from like U of L to about the Indiana State Line... so a bunch of trucks are having to take side streets. It's Wednesday, June 3rd, and there's already been 9 semi's and box trucks that have turned themselves into convertibles.
7:55 3rd and Eastern Bridge || Louisville, KY
8:45 3rd St. Bridge || Louisville, KY
All of these bridges need an added sign before you get to them, like the one they had for a low bridge in Griffin, GA. It simply said: "if you hit this sign, you WILL hit that bridge!" Worked pretty well as they rarely had a bridge strike!

I cannot imagine driving a talltruck and not knowing it's height

I witnessed one such collision in person back in college. At the University of Washington, there's a pedestrian bridge connecting the basketball stadium to campus over Pacific Avenue. I was walking over the bridge when someone drove a box truck into it.

dude how'd these people know this was gonna happen in half these videos and they pull out a camera? Dang 6:50 was a nasty one!! Yo what would you guys do if you were the one driving the red sedan at 7:00 and (thankfully) you didn't get hurt but your car got kinda damaged by the stuff falling on it like what would you do to get compensated by the truck company or whatever would you have to like file a lawsuit or something or would your insurance company handle it I feel worried about the insurance doing everything cause they can be real sharks sometimes and you don't get everything you should but on the other hand with lawsuits you've got lawyers and they can be sharks too like what would be the best thing to do? That's the guy's daily clearly.

trucks with tanks on them are terrifying, also why do so many cars follow closely, I would stay well back from any truck let alone one going under a low bridge
@madcatladyIf it says anything under 4.01 metres youβre an idiot!
@RogueDarc-z1mThose bridges are ludicrously low!
@heeneOnondaga Lake Parkway bridge had several fatalities when a double-decker MegaBus tried to make it under several years ago.
@checkyoursix5623The Fools Bridge is only 2.7 meters high. That's 8 foot 10 inch
@jensschroder8214Can opener bridges must be protected and preserved at all costs!
@beigenegress2979I am so glad that I am retired and not driving a truck anymore these guys are losers
@jrh6370If I go diagonal-like, I can win.....
@roybatty-That 10 6 bridge did not play
@leafgreensniper13Do these idiots lose their jobs after destroying truck because they cant read signs? π€£π€£
@mikes.4811It's not as funny with no sound
@DJcyberslashFunny and heartwarming in equal measureπππ
@Tallmartin180Thank you. Very good vid. I think I have watched all the 11'8" bridges vids. Fascinating to watch the destruction. An amazing collection here.
@hisaddleryder must lose so many trucks
@NamesnipesThese folks are just following GPS
@BigTruckin1974These guys have got to be inexperienced
@jameslentz996910:11 Oh.......
@umikaze3232:20. YOU CAN'T PARK THERE!
@p70581the truck company not only eats the cost of the damaged truck, they must pay for any and all damage to the bridge. reading clearance signs and knowing your load height is law.
@9875zThe Onondaga Lake Parkway has been closed due to accidents.
@PyroShieldsIt doesn't also look to me, like any of these bridges is repaired, after being hit.
Much quite unnerving to travel across it, in a hundreds of tons train
3:22
Why is the OVER HEIGHT sign blurred out in this footage?
It is also strange, that there is so much infrastructure that doesn't apply to the standard of national vehicles.
Even though there is other places to cross, there is also those strange crossings, where the road goes over, and low level trailers bottoms out on.
Fix the issue. Not the symptoms

There's even a sign and flashing lights, telling the driver it is too high..
That's just stupid then
Truck drivers are not the sharpest guys out there
@MrPillowpants91As we at my car hauling company say, The bridge isn't too low, your load is too high.
@carlcovington4910That's why they put the bridge height & warning lights, drivers not paying attention. I drove a box truck for 25 years & never hit a bridge, I've had to stop & find a way around, common sense right? π
@lr3465Talk about pissing off your boss when u call in π‘
@lr3465Are you these drivers high!
@derrickwilson9039Are truckers really THIS STUPID?!? π€£π€£π€£
@stonegasman3866Thanks to all drivers who are not aware of the height of their truck vs. the bridge, so we get supplied with cool accident videos even if the 11 Foot 8 bridge has factually retired. Another advantage is they sort out the drivers which are too stupid to read the signs and figures.
@wwhb4780These videos make me think that half of US drivers, including half of professional drivers, should lose their license to drive.
@Daneelro11:30 The Onondaga Lake Parkway Bridge has numerous warning signs, yet it still gets hit several times each year. The worst was when an occupied double-decker bus hit it.
@doubleubee7523If you donβt know the height of your vehicle, you definitely shouldnβt be driving it.
@SquirrelTheaterThe Parkway bridge is severely over built. That and the one before are like 150 yers old.
@vancemccarthy2554The car drivers right behind these trucks are obviously as blind as the truck driversπ
@peterkoch3777Obviously, USA truckers dont know trailer heights π
@user-ei3dq2dw6i3:00 White Silverado had a lucky rabbitβs foot dangling from his mirror
