Can Local AI Actually Replace ChatGPT?

Video Overview & Insights

Local AI is becoming more and more accessible, but should you replace your cloud subscriptions like ChatGPT with a local LLM?

Some of the comments pointed out you can set up a local LLM to search the internet. That is a great way to get better results in the last comparison example.
Something I can cover in a future video perhaps.

In this video, I run real side-by-side demos comparing a local model (Qwen3 8B on a 7-year-old GPU) against ChatGPT to show you exactly when each one wins.

Great video! Thanks!

- The pros and cons of local vs cloud AI

- When local AI makes sense (privacy, offline, high-volume tasks)

Use tailscale and you can access your local llm from anywhere

And Brave has an AI chat called Leo. 1. If you just need a private AI, you could use that. They are using local llm too just hosting it themselves and sharing it. The browser requests are anonymous 2. It uses models in the 14b param range and works plenty good. If you can get a model like that running locally with enough extra space for as much context as possible, you can replace chatgpt for normal uses (I still don't know if they can compete with Claude code though)

- Why the hybrid approach saves the most money

there are a couple of things that bothere me abaut your video
1. you can allow a local llm to search the internet as well and you can do it so that i cant send user data out
2. i think that you can run a lot more models on older GPUs that have more vram for example a nvidia tesla p100 16gb can run a 25b model no problem and if you set it up in a rag and so that i can search the internet its getting very acuret and even the smaller once as soon as you give them internet they get very acuret and for businesses a local AI is a no brainier its bad as a businesses to send your client data out to other servers
