BREAKING: Colombian Military Plane Carrying About 100 People Crashes During Takeoff

A Colombian Air Force Lockheed Martin Hercules C-130 carrying approximately 110 soldiers crashed during takeoff in southern Colombia. The accident occurred near Puerto Leguízamo, a remote municipality in the Putumayo province, deep in the Amazon region near the border with Peru and Ecuador. Defense Minister Pedro Sánchez has confirmed there are "undetermined" casualties, describing the event as a "tragic accident" and "profoundly painful for the country". Military rescue units are currently at the scene, which is reported to be about 3 km (2 miles) from an urban center. A black cloud of smoke was seen rising from the field shortly after the crash. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
