His most recent role is as the young Padre Pio in a new biopic on the great saint. In our conversation, we discuss:
I resonate so much to this story, it seems - parallel. I am also in that same spiritual program on Zoom. I also just came back to the Catholic Church after 35+ years (the last place I thought I would be). The "trick" Shia is speaking of @ 32 minutes - was being drawn into the mystery & mysticism. A glimpse of the grand design of the tapestry. Mostly we only see the back of the tapestry (the knots and the strings) ... the front of the tapestry is Gods plan, God's perfect design. Sometimes... later, down the road - we turn back and are able to see the front of the tapestry because "More has been Revealed" . We all have our crosses to carry. Growing pains. Pain is a great motivator.

The interpretation , insulted Christ, by pairing it s a mass murder.. insulted, the holy church ( body of christ) ; short of being a devisnf lunatic, PPio was insulted, the monks that assisted ( presenting immorality - to chaste people)
I was insulted at having seen this trash.
The only 45 second redeeming moment was a the invalid and Christs embrace.
So basically, 1 min of the movie was worth seeing.

@brookeperk9327:22 Ironic how he was reading the gospels, and it was telling him to "Let go", then he goes on to give examples of buddhism giving instructions.... only to fall into catholicism where you are given instructions and doing the opposite of letting go...
It makes complete sense now looking at Shia today and hearing how he never truly understood the Gospel itself.
Catholic bishops and teachers are great at talking about anything but the bible.

@markdwarika1779Maybe my favorite video ever on Catholicism. I relate to Shia so much - a publicly (though I am not at all famous) checkered past, being "outta here," finding the Gospel as the only thing saying to "let go" after years of learning about ways to "grip tighter" (for me stoicism, for him buddhism). He also presents his conversion to Catholicism as something he came to for the wrong reasons and that he had quite a hard to adapting too - it was exactly the same for me, and in many ways it still is. God bless Shia LaBeouf
